I don't think this is beating a dead horse

Alright gentleman I'd like some insight if anyone has had this situation yet. I've been around this forum for a while and some similar things have come up but not quite this. My current setup is just too damn loud. I love it all but my neighbor just had a new born and I literally wake him up everyday so I feel bad.

What's a rockin:
Borla UEL
Invidia OP
Invidia Catless front pipe
Greddy Evo 3 catback

Now I was thinking of swapping my Evo 3 out for an Invidia Q300 to quiet it down. But I'm having reservations thinking it might be better volume wise to start by adding a cat and getting an Invidia catted front pipe.

So what do you guys think is a better way to tone down my car to start. Catted front pipe, or dropping the Evo 3 and going to the Q300?

Or hell I might as well just end up doing both. But I don't want it too quiet either

Put the stock catback back on and give it a whirl. It just might be perfect for you while not costing you a dime.

Is it too loud after it has been running a while and is warmed up, or only on cold start? -The reason I ask is my car was insanely loud with exhaust and headers for a few minutes on startup until I changed some parameters to disable the cold start mode in my tune. Now I don't wake up my neighbors or really make all that much noise until I really get my RPMs up when driving.

I have the P&L catted EL header, and open everything else. Just fine.

It's the catless setup you have that really makes it LOUD. having a HFC on there somewhere will dampen things quite a bit.

I disagree. I run/ran a catless P&L EL header with P&L overpipe and P&L catted frontpipe with an Invidia N1, it was just too loud and droned pretty bad. It was even bad when I switched out the catless portion with a catted portion on my P&L header (I have both pieces). I sold the Invidia N1 and went back to stock. Never looked back. No more drone. Exhaust is nice and somewhat quiet now. Don't get me wrong, I loved the sound of the exhaust when I got on it with the N1, and idle was great. Just everyday driving sucked. And forget about start ups hehe.

My advice, try the stock catback. If it suits you, then go for the Q300. That Ultra Quiet Front Pipe looks like something to try as well if you go money to burn. I probably would have tried it back then if it was around. It might be an option for me soon since I'm switching up my complete setup (going turbo). HKS has something similar as well.

The cold start timing retard can be modified to reduce sound on initial warm up. I know when I had my Tomei 60s on that the car was very loud during warm up. The solution for this is to go in to the cold start timing map and reduce timing from -15 to 0 in the full table. This will significantly reduce the sound.

As a work around when you first start the car put your foot on the accelerator and raise RPM's to around 2000-2200. This should force the ECU out of the cold start retard and reduce sound. I know this sounds wrong but it does work. Try it.

I don't think borlas have a catted option. Check my exhaust videos, my setup is pretty quiet.

Startup timing can be changed to get rid of the warm up volume.

I'd try the cheapest option first, try the factory fp?

Cats barely affect the noise level, that's mostly the catback... I noticed a little increase in volume with my Q300 going from a catted header to a catless header, but nothing I would call significant

I have been waiting for someone to try this to see how much it helps with the sound.
