Morons buying more car than they can handle is what that is. I have a 2013 challenger that I did a motor swap, suspension swap, and solid rear axle swap in and it is putting about the same power if not a little bit more on its current track tune. My street tune is running about 500HP as well and it is still a lot.

No way would I ever run the track tune on the streets plain and simple it just is not safe and I can handle the car just fine but refuse to run it that hard or dialed up that high on public streets.

It gets swirly, it gets knarly, and yes it does wheel stands but that doesn't mean one should do it on an open street.

I am not apposed to the new hell cats matter of fact I am thinking about trading the current challenger in for one however it is IMO that you should be required to take a drivers safety coarse to learn how to handle the car much like you used to have to do when you bought a new viper.

I am not apposed to the price tag either it makes it affordable for a lot of people who want a modern muscle "super car". However people should have some self control when they drive and not try and push the car past their personal ability and they should be governed IMO.

I get the feeling that right now we're living in what will be remembered as a golden age of performance cars. It's remarkably easy nowadays to get cars with performance levels way too high for 90%+ of drivers. A few more high-profile crashes like this and eventually the public will demand some kind of legal limits enforced on things like speed and mpg such that we won't have cars like this anymore.

I would say that the current performance level of these cars is more than 98-99% of drivers can safely handle at speed. It is a matter of having some common sense and self control. It seems these guys that can afford to buy these ridiculously powerful and/or exotic cars often have way more ego than they have skill and sense.

I don't mind when these tools munch these cars as long as they don't kill somebody else in the process. Just because you can buy doesn't mean you can drive it.

Good Lord, a NA Miata has performance levels way too high for 90+% drivers where I live.... At least it certainly feels that way.

Best part is, Dodge gives you two keys when you buy a Hellcat. You get a black key and a red key. You cannot use the red key till the odometer ticks 500 miles so this jackass wasn't even running on full performance mode.

This story makes me sad. I really like this car a lot and it's people like this that ruin it for everyone. This is a straight line car, not a cornering car.

Everyone is so quick to insult the driver, but none of you were there in that situation.

Maybe he knows it's an american muscle that can't corner like a sports car.

Maybe he wasn't even going that fast.

I certainly can recall members here crashing with their twin going under 40 mph.....

Give the guy a break. The articles don't mention high speed was a factor.

I spun mine overcorrecting within the first week. 14 years out of practice. It was in a safe spot and I didn't hit anything, so... <phew!>
