TRD Quick Shift Kit
Can someone confirm that the TRD quick shift kit PTR54-18130 will fit a '15 BRZ? Also since this is a "Toyota" and not a Subaru part will it still be covered under warranty/

Contact your dealership to find out whether or not it will be covered under warranty... it might be if they install it, but I highly doubt it if you install it.

Actually forgot there was a thread on this. But yes the part is covered, if it breaks because of improper install it is not covered.
http://www.trdsparks.com/warranty1.htm TRD Parts and Labor Warranty The warranty coverage for and lawful use of parts in each of these categories is very different. Warranty and use information for each category of TRD Parts is described below. TRD Sport Parts installed by Dealer TRD Sport Parts are warranted for 12 months or 12,000 miles from the date of installation or for the balance of the new car warranty in force on the date of installation, whichever is greater, when TRD Sport Parts are installed by an authorized Toyota or Scion Dealer. This warranty does not cover maintenance services such as replacement of brake pads/linings and clutch linings. This warranty does not cover noise, vibration, cosmetic conditions and other deterioration caused by normal wear and tear. TRD customers are responsible for ensuring that the use of any TRD Sport Part complies with all applicable federal, state or local laws, regulations and ordinances. TRD Sport Parts Not Installed by a Dealer TRD Sport Parts installed by anyone other than an authorized Toyota or Scion dealer are warranted for 12 months or 12,000 miles from the date of purchase only and the warranty coverage is limited to the replacement value of the TRD Sport Part. This warranty does not cover maintenance services such as replacement of brake pads/linings and clutch linings. This warranty does not cover noise, vibration, cosmetic conditions and other deterioration caused by normal wear and tear. Part failure caused by improper installation by anyone other than an authorized Toyota or Scion dealer may void the TRD Sport Part warranty, the new vehicle warranty or both. TRD customers are responsible for ensuring that the use of any TRD Sport Part complies with all applicable federal, state or local laws, regulations and ordinances. Race or Off-Highway Use Parts are covered separately. Superchargers are covered separately. Warranty Note for Self-installed Parts Self-installed parts (any part not installed by a shop) that needs to be warrantied will first need to be inspected/tested by a shop to determine if the issue is related to installation. After this has been done we can proceed with the warranty as normal.

Yes it should fit. No it won't be covered by SOA. (My TRD springs are not)
Try to see if you can find a car that has one. I installed mine and took it off a week later. |

That was the plan. Pick up the parts and have the dealer install it. Like the warranty shows in stevesnj, it's warrantied for Toyota/Scion and does not mention Subaru. The contact info for TRD sent me to Toyota (when I tried to find out) and then Toyota sent me to Subaru who told me it would not fit, then they gave the "we have not tested it" spiel so it looks like I'll head over to my Subaru dealer and have a talk with their service manager and see what he has to say.

Okay, just got done talking to the parts manager. The TRD quick shift kit would void the Subaru warranty for the transmission even though it's fine on the FRS (and the same tranny). I see that Subaru offers Quick shift kits for other vehicles. It would be great if they would offer (or rebrand the TRD kit) for the BRZ. Since my car isn't even out of the break-in period yet I'm going to have to hold off until Subaru sells one (that's decent) or wait until the warranty is up.

Because it's not designed well. IMHO. It's an extension piece to the shifter lever and it puts the linkage lower changing the angle to the fulcrum point. In my case, it seemed like a 40% reduction in throw but at cost; the shifter took an increased amount of effort to go into gear and it made the gear engagement nothcy (in a bad way). The trans eventually will adapt to some of this notchiness by wearing in. Secondly, you must watch out for the casting of the lower shift linkage as the head can walk the bolt out leaving you with a wobbly shifter. I had an FRS that this was diagnosed on that needed clearancing of the shift linkage to install properly. All and all, you must remember the TRD quick shift is advertised at 35-40% reduction. The full JDM STI shifter is, iirc, 20% reduction and the TRD 25%-30%. And while the USDM quick shifter is an adapter, the JDM options are an entire shifter assembly. I did not like the feel and didn't believe the part was well engineered. |

That's good to know. My plan was using an Ashiko Knob (735 grams) and switching over to Motul. That with some wear, should cut down on the effort & notchiness. Hopefully, I'll get a chance to try someones to get the true feel for it before pulling the trigger. Since this will most likely be done post warranty, are there any other current designs that do this better?

The notchiness is due to the leverage, not the gear engagement. Any gear engagement notchiness will grind away with time. The JDM STI and TRD shifters are much better. You might also find what you're looking for with kartboy, but that might induce a whole new set of issues. I really wish Cobb had an offering for the 86. |

I have the TRD short throw and its amazing. The notchiness people are describing is due to the dealer over tightening or not installing it incorrectly. I had trouble shifting into first and second when the dealer installed it and then 2k miles later all hell broke loose and couldn't shift into 1st or 2nd gear. I took it to Autotune and had him work on it and added a stiffer shifter spring (my choice) and now it shifts as smooth as butter and feels amazing.

Yes it will. The notchy feeling is easily foxed with the MTEC springs. I have them both. Perfect
