BRZ #9 on most complained about cars of 2014. FRS #20

This doesn't surprise me. Most people expect too much from a cheap sports car.

The lifehacker article:

Yah it is. My grand father has one. As personality-less and boring as they are, they actually seem high quality. But then again I appreciate the little things where the typical person that buys a Prius may think differently.

That's interesting. The Subaru BRZ has sold about 1/3rd the volume as the Scion FRS yet there are almost 60% more complaints about the BRZ than the FRS.

Are Subby owners whiners? Or is Toyota better at dealing with customer issues?

the sheer volume of brz's that are being driven are smaller than frs by a factor of 10. If there are the same problems with the frs with a larger basis of cars, only a small percent will be affected (frs' affected/all the frs' customers). Thus if those same problems affect the brz with a smaller basis of customers who own the car than that percent is inherently higher (affected brz owners/all brz owners).

I think most of those complains are "I'm getting 40 MPG. It's supposed to get 50 MPG!!!"

Interesting. I didn't notice the figures were based off a complaint-index-ratio that is a ratio of volume vs complaints.

As for 10/1 ratio regarding sales volume, that's wrong.

2013 sales USA:
BRZ: 8,587
FRS: 18,327

That's a 2.13:1 sales volume ratio but the complaint ratio is 1.6:1

Now the article says the complaint-index-ratio is "relative to the volume sold" and thus the difference in volume between the BRZ and FRS should be irrelevant since it's "relative". With a complaint ratio between of the two of 1.6:1, we can conclude that BRZ owners have a 60% higher complaint rate. So why is that?

Prius, Leaf and Volt all on the list. It really makes you want to run out and buy an electric or electric hybrid. Also seem that Nissan/Infinity is a bit of an overachiever.

I would say the younger crowd from the FR-S buys would go complain on facebook before they show up at the dealer to complain. Or perhaps they are modding sooner and to the point to where they feel like they can't make a complaint on it. Making a lot of there voices to go unheard. I would say the older BRZ crowd tends to be very vocal in complaints. I also think both sides don't fully realize what they sign up for when they buy these cars.
