Advanced Multiplier??? What is it?

I recently ran the OTS stage 2 EL E85 tune on my car, yet I didn't notice the advanced multiplier moving off of "0" at any point...should it be?

Advanced multiplier should read 1 (in most cases; your zero could just be the a template issue if you're on OFT).

It's used to adjust your timing advance (usually more timing = more aggressive tune) to compensate for fuel quality. It can go anywhere from 0 (really bad) --> 1 (ideal).

When your ECU detects knock, it will lower the multiplier.

Think of multiplier as percentage of timing applied. 0-1 --> 0% - 100%

Let's say at 3000 RPM, your tune calls for 40 degrees of timing. If you're on good gas as prescribed by the tune, your IAM should be 1 or at least close to it. You'll get 1.0 x 40 degrees = effectively 40 degrees applied.

If you're on lower quality gas, ECU detects the knock, and drops your IAM - it will keep dropping until ECU determines that the resulting level of knock after adjustments is within safe limits.

Example: knock detected, IAM drops to 0.7 --> 70% of 40 degrees = 28 degrees applied.

There's always a debate as to whether a tune should be optimized for potential (on ideal fuel) and let ECU compensate for poor fuel by dropping IAM OR to optimize for effective fuel (target IAM to always be at 1.0; drop timing a bit since fuel is never perfect - also regional differences).

Someone correct me if I got any of this wrong!

So your saying..with the E85 tune loaded...if I do a 3rd gear pull to redline, I SHOULD see the multiplier move to "1"?

It should be at 1 to begin with.

No:

If your OFT is reading advance multiplier of "0" then something is slightly misconfigured with your OFT (fixable, contact Vishnu)

If your OFT is reading constant "1" you are good to go.

If your OFT is reading somewhere between 0 and 1 then you're having knock, which means the engine isn't happy and there might be an issue with your fuel (or otherwise).

Ben

Dropping due to Knock correction at lower rpm 2000-3000 rpm

http://www.datazap.me/u/benlaz88/1st...8-9-12&solo=12

If its your first tank of E85 probably due to residual petrol.

If not you may need to pull 0.35 or 0.7 degrees out of the base_timing_B map from 2000-3000 rpm engine load 0.5 to 1.0 where your seeing that knock
