In case you lose a nut in your trunk lid

I'm spending my weekend finally installing my audio setup and backup cam. In the process of feeding the backup cam wire through the trunk lid I had to remove the trunk garnish piece. It's secured by 4-5 8mm nuts. I was threading the last one back on when it slipped and plummeted into the abyss.

I spent a good 20 minutes trying to fish it out with magnetic pickups, a flexible reach grabber thing, contorting my hand and arm, as well various banging.

I thought I'd have to live with a rattle until I decided to burn the BRZ to the ground.

Caveman idea popped into my head. I took some fish tape and wrapped the tip with duct tape, sticky side out.

boom. it worked. I had to come inside and grab a drink to celebrate.

I wish this on no one, but it's still solvable.

now... if someone could tell me if it's possible to thread an RCA cable end through the stock wire loom without cutting the end off first, I'd love to hear about it...

Much better than removing your bumper to retrieve a 10mm socket

Unless I'm mistaken, our trunk lids are aluminum so you could use a magnet up against the trunk panel from the inside to lead the nut out as well. It'll attract the nut and the not stuck to the trunk.

Good job on killing a rattle!

+1 from me. A magnet will stick onto the steel trunk , but not on the aluminum hood.
