Stockton Fairgrounds Autocross

Just wanted to remind folk that the next autocross at the Stockton Fairgrounds is August 3/4 and August 17/18...I'll be out at the August 17/18 one.

I'm super new at autocross but it's a blast!
Anyone else game?

Contrary to what a lot of people think, I actually like the Stockton location/track set-up. Thanks to the Corvette club...ermmm... I mean Sac SCCA, the course is nice and fast, usually with a loop here and there. I'm actually planning on going on 3rd/4th, but I can switch to 17/18. Eric @mkiisupra you planning on going?

Not a big fan of Stockton but I'll probably go on August 3 or 4 if I have nothin else going on. Regardless of how I feel about the Corvette Mafia that runs Sac SCCA, I feel the Stockton course just doesn't offer enough seat time.

I've had laps over there that have last all of 28 secs before!

Its an SCCA event, under solo II, so all the regular fees (annual or weekend membership, etc.) should be the same. If its your first time in an SCCA event, read up on the regulations on the website (I find the SF SCCA website a good resource http://www.sfrscca.org/). Its put together by the Sacramento chapter (http://www.sfrscca.org/solo2/Sacramento/).

Yes, pretty much anyone can participate, any regular car can run, although there are limitations (basically, no high cog vehicles like suv's and tall trucks). Yes, you will need to wear a helmet, but they have loaners if you don't own one (but keep in mind that they will be used by others in searing hot Stockton, so be warned, bring a head sock at least)

Sweet! Damn, I'm actually torn, considering staying home that weekend to work on the honey-do list (to earn some brownie points, married guys know what I'm talking about ) and going the 17th/18th instead. Really wanted to join ya tho, but with new rubber, damn I'll never keep up with you lol!

I can't make the 3/4 event, since I'm taking my husband to an exotic car track day, but we will be out there for the 17/18 weekend.

It IS scorching hot, so make sure to bring lots of water and a hat/type of shade.
If you've never been to autocross, just let people know that you're new, and they'll help you out.

One thing I didn't see mentioned:

You are expected to participate in course work in order to do your runs. This helps keep the fees down to a reasonable level. Course work consists of helping out with timing/records, standing out on grid, or watching corners to pick up cones that have been hit. You're expected to stand the whole time, and are not allowed to be on your cell phone, just for safety reasons and to keep things moving along.

If you've never course worked, you'll want to hook up with someone who has, in order to learn those ins and outs. It doesn't take up a lot of time, and for me, helps me to watch others run and analyze the course and my own driving.

Also worth noting for beginners looking for a class to run in...

"Street Tire" class is probably the most fun class to run in for stock/lightly modified cars. It's a catch-all class for everyone not modified for Street Touring (ST) classes or running R-Comps in stock classes (CS or CStock for FRS/BRZ).

You compete against all makes/models/classes and the "Street Tire" index gets applied to your lap time along with the index of the class your car fits in (again, CStock for FRS/BRZ).

Street Tire class has the most participation and closest competition of just about any class in SCCA. As a matter of fact, SCCA has a proposal for next year to transform Stock classes to be closer to the Street Tire class (no r-comps and light mods).

Street Tire runs in the 1st afternoon session on Sat: http://www.sfrscca.org/solo2/Sacramento/Cup20139.htm
and 2nd afternoon session on Sun: http://www.sfrscca.org/solo2/Sacramento/Cup201310.htm

Great point about Street Tire and classing in general!

I don't worry about points and trophies, and can check the results for overall comparos with cars and drivers I may or may not have driven with after the day is over. I run for fun, and put the car I bring to that event in any class it fits into, and most street cars fit into several classes, even with limited 'can't-fit-into-stock-class' upgrades/mods.

I have/will run the FR-S in the following classes: CS, STX, RT-whatever, STU (local), OSP, whatever-SP and all other classes to run when I can. Most events have two run groupings, AM and PM. If you don't care about points and trophies (I do like decals, though), run whenever your schedule allows and smile.
