Supercharging the GT86 ... in Brazil! help needed!
Hey there! i know there is a ton of info about FI on the forums, but my case is a little bit different. I live in Brazil... and Argentina. I go back and forth to both countries (work stuff) with my GT86. Its been a year since i bought it and so far ive done OFT+OFH combo with a perrin drop-in filter. Ive always wanted to more power... and ive been looking at the Vortech Supercharger, since i have the OFH+OFT combo and OFT supports this kit. But my big issues are 2... fuel, and specialized shop to do the install and maintenance if something brakes.
First, the fuel in Brazil is crap... it has 25% ethanol in it, even the top rated fuel (98RON). In Argentina the fuel is better, pure 98RON, little to no ethanol. So my big concern is engine life with this types of fuel. So far, no problems, even with Stg2 UEL OFT map (22.000 km already). But what will happen when i throw a supercharger+Shiv map in it? will i have any potential problems? Also, going back and forth to different types (qualities) of fuel could generate any problems? Second issue, a specialized shop to do the install. Bear in mind that my car is one of a kind in Brazil (they didn't import it yet, and mine is probably the only one in Brazil), and even thou there are some people that specialize in Subarus, they are far away, and they haven't even seen the FA20 engine yet. Also, if something brakes, i need to import all the parts from the US... there is nothing in stock here in Brazil or Argentina. So how hard is it to install? Could a normal mechanical shop do it? I have a friend that works at the local BMW that could do the install... Does the supercharger requires a lot of maintenance? Sorry for the long post! i appreciate all the help i can get! (also im a little bit of a mechanical noob...) |

You'll want to find a local tuner to optimize the tune for the 25% ethanol mix and the pure 98RON fuel. You can tune any of the supercharger setups without any problems using OFT. In terms of stuff breaking, that's going to be the risk with any sort of modification. Less chances for failure has been noted on setups with proven testing and R&D work.

![]() I think that flex fuel is going to be your answer. Depending where you are either in Brazil or Argentina you'll need to be really adaptable regarding fuel so you need the system (and tune) to actively adapt. There are a few "turn key" flex fuel solutions for the innovate and vortex super chargers you could look into. As for the parts breaking I think it's a matter of risk vs. reward. My advice: 5-7psi with a conservative tune. Keep us informed, I'm looking forward to your progress reports...
