Body Shop Woes
Hello all,
I recently had a repair done on my vehicle by a local body shop. To say the least, they have great customer service but I am not too happy with some of the results. Before anybody starts bashing them please note that I had just barely notified the body shop of this issue so it may take some time for them to respond. The weather stripping on my roof was not installed properly. Subsequently rust has started and at the rear window where the weather stripping connects. There is some sort of red material. Not sure if its rust. Since I had to get a new bumper, it had to be repainted. I knew the bumper was not going to match the the rest of the body but I didn't know it was going to be that off. Also, near the end of the weather stripping towards the rear window there is a deep small scratch that was not there before. I had talked to the body shop about the mis-matched paint and they said if I were to buff and polish it, it would match the bumper. Lesson of the day, if you're getting your vehicle repaired double check everything before you sign and pick up the vehicle. Last edited by shellslinger; 11-10-2014 at 11:33 PM. |

Unfortunately I did not. I had taken delivery of the vehicle at night where imperfections could not be seen very well. None the less, I have contacted the body shop with the issue just right now via email. I just wanted to document this for further future reference.

Lmao that's horribly off on both accounts. I had my fav body shop repair a nice rock chip in my rear 1/4 and guess what, you'd have no idea it's not factory paint. To be honest when ever something gets painted for it to look good it must be blended in meaning more then just that painted and the whole thing buffed/polished ect.
However that bumper is so far off I don't see that helping. I mean that is easily a couple shades off in the pic. I can only imagine how bad it is under sunlight in person. Looks like they were lazy IMO just tried to get youin an out to start a new job.

I have spoke with them regarding that issue a few weeks ago. But I'm giving them time to respond before I out their name. They generally respond fairly quickly to my emails. |

The shop I use here has fixed minor issues before and after I've taken delivery. Mcullums body shop. For instance the little clear paint protection by the bottom of the doors from the factory, had 2 small bubbles under it. No1 noticed it but I did when I got home because I'm a perfectionist when it comes to cars. Called em up and they fixed it 30min later. It shouldn't take weeks to fix it. Paint is fast, it should have been fixed over a weekend honestly. But like I said, just looking at the pics it wasn't a quality job that they cared about or they wouldn't have let it go in that condition. Sure I've seen worse but that's not the point. I would out them already IMO.

The small rust colored spots under the roof strip look like rail dust from shipping and not anything the body shop did. That roof strip just clips in and you should be able to reposition it yourself. Pearl paint does not match even from the factory because of the flex agent additives. Yours might be a little more severe than what it was from the factory and not sure how much time you want to spend with your car in the shop with them trying to do a better match.

That's a terrible pearl white paint job.
Yes, a bumper will look SLIGHTLY off because painting metal and a plastic bumper will be different. But that's significantly different. I had pearl white before...but that's a terrible paint job. ![]() ![]() Mines was matched pretty spot on. Don't have the vehicle anymore though. |

My whiteout looks mismatched as well due to metal vs. plastic, but not that bad off. I would hope they would fix that. If not let us know and we will be glad to complain on your behalf!

I recently had my front bumper replaced and painted. Toyota was giving the body shop the wrong paint code information after a couple of tries they had PPG come out and help formulate the correct paint and it came out great. Send me a pm if you want more info. The body shop is located in Pasadena

If you ask me it looks like they did not even put the pearl coat of paint on the bumper.
Worst looking paint match I have seen thus far. |
