Steering wheel correction
Hi all,
I've had this issue for quote some time: if I go on a large bend just at the exit the steering wheel goes a bit crazy...I thought initially that the traction control tries to kick in and correct my driving but even after the traction control deactivation, still does it...is more like the steering wheel wants to go a bit more than it correct it self. I drove another 86 and it felt beautiful, while mine is stiff and hard. I lowered the car thinking that it might correct the oversteer but no. I have also installed the Ktd425 Whiteline to maintain the geometry of the suspension, but I still have issues. Anyone know why? Sent from my HTC One X using Tapatalk 2 |

You the first owner? Stock tires? Tire pressures?
If all else fails and it's as bad as you say compared to other 86's, return suspension to stock and take er in. If you can notice the techs should. |

Sounds like a castor issue, but that is fixed on these McPherson strut cars.
How low did you go? Also, wider tires or wheels with non standard offsets can cause these issues. |

That could be an electric steering issue. IS350's/250's had a weird problem

I've driven a new 2009 IS250 AWD one time, the electric steering on that car has really slow response. You can feel the motor having trouble catching up with steering input (feels like really bad force feedback when playing Sega Outrun at the arcade back in the 80's). Actually I've also driven a 2007 Civic a few times with the exact same behavior. If I've never had a car with proper electric steering (Mk.5 Golf GTI) I would have thought modern electric steering sucks big time! The electric steering on my BRZ is really good I rank it on par with the GTI.
Can't you change the castor by shifting the subframe? Check the subframe bolts are tight? Sorry I'm not too familiar with this car yet. Last edited by krayzie; 12-29-2013 at 12:26 AM. |
