Rusted exhaust pipe '13 FR-S
Alright, so I really don't know if this is normal or if it's something I need to address with the dealership. I pulled off one of my rear wheels today while cleaning up the car and I saw the pipe rusted all the way from the rear up to the engine. I've had the car for a year now and it has 17,500 miles.
Is this normal? Thoughts? Thanks ![]()

No expert by any means, but I think it's just surface rust. Which is normal.

factory exhausts rust, they're hot and they aren't typically stainless,
that said, how often do you undercarriage wash? I do it religiously over the course of winter and extra good after salt season is over. It makes a significant difference over long term ownership of a vehicle. and doesn't have to be any more complicated than running a lawn sprinkler under the vehicle. |

That looks like a fun bolt and nut to remove on that axleback. Recommend replacing with a stainless steel exhaust, like a Q300 if you want similar to stock, but better.

Welcome to snow country. Perfectly normal in our horrible climate, especially given how bad this winter was.

Thanks everyone! Going to look at a new exhaust, and start washing that undercarriage going forward.

Those bolts are actually quite easy. 14mm box wrench and ratchet. Don't even need to jack the car up. The hangers are the beeyotch.

The hangers are real simple. Get yourself some WD-40 silicon spray. You can do it by hand with a little force. Don't use regular WD-40 though. They also have a special tool specifically for removing hangers.

Probably should have thought of that. Too late to not use brute force and a variety of pry bars... The one that went back on got white lithium.
