OFT noobie question

Hi guys, there are so many OFT threads here I can't get my head round them so quick questions if someone could help out please.

1. As there are so many off the shelf tunes available how do you know the slight differences between them - is there explanations with each ?

2. Do these tunes come with FFS, launch control etc. as standard or do they need to be set up by the user

3. Is it like Ecutek in that you can have several maps for different fuel etc. that can be selected with the cruise control stick or do you have to flash them separately.

Sorry to be a PITA and please don't say search cos I am already 53 and may die before I read through all of this stuff!!! I currently have Ecutek but am looking at this and the OF header as the way forward.

Cheers and thanks in advance for any help you can give me

Read the OFT TIPS link below will answer most of your questions.

The OFT is a tablet that can hold 5 tunes in its memory, however they need to be flashed to car ECU witch takes a few minutes. OFT tunes included. No instant switching with OFT tunes must stop and reflash ECU.

EcuTEK have managed to combine 4 tunes and flash the lot to the ECU with additional software in the ecu code to enable switching of the tunes on the fly. Ecutek you pay extra for tunes

If you have ECUtek and a cable, why not flash a OFT map using ECUtek?

I didn't know I could!!! I reckon the OFT will be easier to use/carry around than needing my laptop anyway so it's all good

1. I'm a new OFT owners, so still getting used to things...RomRaider seems to be the editor of choice for making your own map/tune files. It seems someone has made a util that will compare maps: http://www.romraider.com/forum/viewt...hp?f=32&t=6490

2. Yes, those items are pre-configured into the default maps.

3. The OFT Tablet has a memory that holds 5 tune/map files. You connect your PC to your OFT (via included USB cable and installing their OFT Manager software) in order to add or delete tune/map files. Then you connect the OFT Tablet to the car to upload the tune you want, but only 1 at a time. It takes about 5min to upload a tune file to the ECU.

Yup, or just open up OFT maps in ECUtek, copy across the maps to an ECUtek ROM and give yourself the full RaceRom features.

TBH if you're making map changes at all just using a laptop to edit and flash is much easier than, edit on laptop, copy to tablet, flash to car.

RomRaider has a built in map comparison tool.

Forgive my stupidity here, but are you saying that I can purchase the off the shelf tunes from Shiv but then flash them to the car and also run logs etc with my basic Ecutek cable?

I have an OFT not Ecutek so take this with a grain of salt but I believe since Ecutek opened up end user tuning you are able to load the FREE off the shelf tunes that Shiv published on his website. An alternate option is that if you did buy an OFH, whoever your Ecutek tuner is, should be able to tune it for similar results to what Shiv achieved. If you aren't confident fiddling with different tunes this could be a reasonable and not too expensive way to go.

Romraider will compare roms without that utility it will also compare roms with differen calid as you can load up two or more roms with different definition files.

Need to use caution as the def files for differnet roms may contain different defined tables or the names may change or the number of defined tables may be different.

Its best to stick to roms with same calid and hence same definition. OFT roms contain a patch for the launch and FFS features so this will show up as a difference to a stock rom.

Is there a way to bring up every change? Or can you only compare table to table?

If you have a cable, no extra purchase required You can directly flash an OFT map. If you want to flash and forget, this is an option.

The only issue with directly using OFT maps is that it doesn't unlock the full ECUtek logging facility. You can still log most things. If you update the ProECU software it will download all the latest stock ECUtek ROMs and RaceRom patches which you can then use to copy the maps across. It'll take you 10-20 mins but it's fairly easy. I can easily compile a list of the tables that have changed from the base ROM so you can do it.

Load up 2 maps in RomRaider
Edit > Compare Images
Both any changes will be highlighted in red. If you click on that it will show any tables that are different in red. Just note that one table will open with the values and the 2nd table will be show the difference between the tables. On that table, click on:
Table > Compare > Off
