Torque App & Open Flash Tablet

Hey guys, I had a quick question that I didn't find in any searches. I plan on getting an Open Flash Tablet sometime this winter, or even as early as next month.

I was also interested in checking out my oil temps and other stuff, and was considering purchasing a Bluetooth OBD Scanner + Torque Pro.

My question is... does the OFT pretty much do everything that the Torque App can? If so, I'll just skip it. If not, can anyone list some of the stuff that the Torque App can do that the OFT cannot?

Just trying to determine if I should get the Torque App now and the OFT later, or if I should just wait and get the OFT only.

Any and all help is appreciated.

I have both and I would definitely spend $20 on the Torque app and a cheap Bluetooth adapter. There really are two completely different products and there is some cool stuff you can do with the Torque app. There are different plugings to overlay data over video, knock monitors and you can configure your own layout. Here's one that I have been running.

It's not something anyone can compare right now except maybe Shiv from Vishnu because no one has seen what the logging features will be like on the OFT yet. Since both pull their data from the OBDII port, they should be capable of getting the same information. It then comes down to which interface you like better.

@fstlane has anyone figured out how to monitor 'knock correction CA" in the real time logging screen without switching to the knock add on? I haven't messed with configuring your own layout. Can you give me a little more info on how you did this?

I too like the Torque app. I have EcuTek but the interface that the Torque app gives you is fantastic. You don't the refresh rate that EcuTek will give you but it is also half the hassle. No cord, and you have real time data in an easy to read display.

I've never seen the "knock correction CA" parameter in available sensors but hopefully someone can find the settings to add a custom PID for it. I'm running the RacrMeter plugin in the above screenshot.

you can look at the screen captures for the logging feature for the oft on their other cars. i have both and will use the oft for data logging and the torque app when i want to see fancier gauges. for 20 bucks the app and connector was a no brainer for me and the oft is the best upgrade ive done so far.

im using the app right now and honestly i wouldnt trust it as a data logging platform. A lot of the info seems inaccurate and more of a novelty. It said my peak hp number is 219whp . it does vocally notify you when the car has reached normal operating temp though which is pretty useful.

That's pretty much the whole reason I wanted to get it. I've read a bunch about the oil temps, and it appears that the operating temps of the oil are roughly 185* F, which takes longer to reach than the water temps of 195* F. It sucks seeing my temp gauge in the car read warm (coolant), but not knowing when the oil temps are warm enough to be able to rev past 3k rpm's.

I figured the OFT would do the same thing, but I also saw that Torque logged 0-60 and 1/4 mile times, etc, which seemed useful. The fact that it actually announces when the oil reaches operating temps just sold me on it though. Thanks for that.

if you're going to use torque, spend the money on a decent elm327. the cheap chinese knockoffs are so slow as to be marginally useful for monitoring, and completely useless for any sort of logging. they're not cheap, but you get what you pay for.

If the HP calculations were any more than an extremely rough estimate based on the GVW you entered and the accelerometer readings, we wouldn't need Dyno's worth thousands of dollars.

The other information regarding what the ECU sees (temps, o2, pressure, timing etc) will be as accurate as the sensor sending it.
