Am I the only one that thinks those waiting for 2015....
..are going to be disappointed?
In all these 2014 posts, you see people saying they're going to wait it out. Based on the one article that these rumors are based off of, it's not even for sure that the power increase will come. All this talk about a larger engine, forced induction, hybrid system, personally don't really make sense to me. Of all these options, the only ideal thing I see happening is forced induction option. TRD supercharger and subie turbo. Larger displacement doesnt make sense overseas and I dont see them offering 2 engines depending on country. This engine was built for this platform, I dont see them boosting up numbers anytime soon, especially only after 2 years into production. The cars are still selling, especially on the subaru front. We're not talking about a Mitsubishi MiEV. The main "support" besides the article seems to be that subaru tends to improve cars mid-cycle every 2 or so years, with the current gen WRX being the main example. what doesn't make sense is that from 07 to 08 models, the body styles changed to a "new" generation, but the engines were kept the same. so the 07 and 08 had different body styles but same engine. it wasn't until 2009 that the boost in performance came. and in 2011 came the handling upgrades and more aggressive body kit. i dont see the ft86 having a similar fate. there's already a more aggressive body kit and handling upgrades coming out in the form of the tS trim, but a boost in power in 2015 seems unlikely to me. Cars that did receive power boosts such as the s2000 and RSX type-s didn't do so until that end of its production, and even those upgrades were minimal. I can just see 2015 models being nearly identical to the '13 and '14 and who knows? maybe we'll hear more rumors about 2016 and those who waited for the 15 will wait another year for the '16 only to be disappointed again ![]() Any thoughts? |

If you have driven the car and it does not have enough power for you, and you are not interested in going aftermarket and potentially voiding your warranty, then waiting to see what happens is not a bad idea. I agree, we have nothing but poorly translated rumors, but it would also suck to buy a car that you feel is lacking in power and then a more powerful car is released a year later.
I think most people are more than happy with the power, but there are some that want more and that is understandable. I don't think they will have any issues moving 2014 models. |

I'll take the chief engineer for Toyota at his word, that work is currently being prototyped for more power. 18 months to production seems reasonable. Certainly their market research is going to be showing what is evident not just here but in other forums etc. - there are many many potential buyers for whom the current power/torque deficit is a deal-killer (charter member here). I'd guesstimate that they would easily double sales if they could get that power up by 30-50 hp/torques for reasonable cost.

I have hard time believing that this car will change very much as it progresses over it life cycle. My reasoning behind it is, I think price is paramount to this car. Added anything power wise makes it more expensive to make and to insure. This also was an expensive car to create, it has it own platform and it shares very little component with its stable mates compared to its siblings. Lastly if you look at such niche cars from other manufacturers, I doubt if you'll get much more than new head and tails lights and a light tune to ECU for a couple hp/tq. I bought mine because I wanted to enjoy it now. To me it has plenty of power. Its about as fast as my Civic Si was, its more fun to drive than my Civic Si and just a easy on my wallet as the Civic Si.

The grass is always greener on the other side.
It's like computers and phones. If you wait, there will ALWAYS be something better. If you want it, just get it. |

I think when they say 2015 people think 2015 model year. That is probably not the case. I would bet 2015 as a 2016 model.

I've already been waiting 1 and a half years to get mine...not waiting any longer. My plan is to get a GBS Limited before mid October...if not available anymore, then a DGM asap.
Either way, I'm getting one now...no more waiting. I've test driven this car so many times, I'm an addict that needs his permanent fix. |

While people are arguing that they are not buying a twin because it lacks power, I am enjoying mine for what it is and when I want more power, i'll see if they indeed came out with something better or upgrade mine.
Until then, I am having fun while they are complaining over a car they dont even own to begin with. |

You're most likely gonna have to wait until October or November of 2015 at the very earliest to get your hands on an improved HP BRZ/FRS. Then again, who knows what concept cars could debut then, as competitors will try to compete with Toyota & Subaru in this niche. Then the waiting goes on and on.. I say buy it now if you enjoy driving it and you're in need of a car. I came from a 140HP Civic coupe, and 200 HP is a blessing and a joy to drive!

What is this? Tantric driving? If you want it and can afford it, buy it. Why spend 2+ years not having that thing you want in "hopes" that it becomes something else? All that says to me is that if you're waiting you either A) Can't afford it right now anyway or B) just don't want the car as it currently exists.

Yeah idk why people are relying on the rumor mill for such a major purchase. It might have a 2.5 liter engine/turbo/sti package one of these years, but it probably won't

I tend to agree with the OP. I've now lived with the BRZ Limited for a little over a year and to be completely honest, the car isn't a $33k - $36k car. If they put a larger motor/turbo/supercharger/etc. they'd have to upgrade the rest of the car and by doing so they'd put the car into a higher price point that the car just wasn't designed for IMHO. If they put in a higher output motor and price the car higher, that means that they'd have to upgrade of the rest of the car accordingly, i.e. the snowball effect. I just don't think as the car is now, it has what it takes, overall, to be that kind of car. To get it there just wouldn't make sense in my opinion.
But hey who knows? There are people who actually like Justin Beiber, so I guess anything is possible.
