Update: I read the nav unit owners manual and there was nothing about DVD compatibility. Oh well, would have been nice but that's not what I'm buying the car for.

I would be surprised if it has DVD playback.

Usually it's just a matter of finding the signal that goes into the radio from the ebrake and grounding it.

I still plan to do a mod from my ipod to the nav. to play movies off it (unless that's capable already) or I'll just wait until someone else figures out how to make this happen too.

I don't think it's as simple as the E brake wire. I searched a bunch online in 2012 Impreza and Forester forums and couldn't find where anyone had defeated it yet. Since it's nav I bet they use the vehicle speed sensor as well. Cutting this plus the E brake would probably do it, but it'll reduce the nav's ability quite a bit.

I know for a fact the Canadian pioneer units can, guess you Americans got the short end if the stick for once... Sounds like your head units are crap, I got absolutely zero complaints when it come to mine, even coming from high end alpine units

I put some files on a USB card but can't seem to see them on the USA head unit. I put an AVi DivX file and MP4. None worked.

Avi DivX and mp4 files work for me from my USB thumbdrive, when my e-brake is up.
