Terrific review

Searched for this in the BRZ forum but it looks like it has not been mentioned - a great review from Speedmonkey done last September.

The BRZ is the best car I've ever driven for sheer naughty mucking about in a car. Its toolkit of fun is chock full. It feels light, like you can throw it around, yet you never get out of control.

Check out the Alcantara seating in the fourth photo. It looks like it was sat in and the car driven for ten hours on a hot humid day by someone who wore no clothes, not even underwear.
I hate Alcantara.

I skipped the limited in part because of the alcantara, no idea how it would wear. The premium however, had the seat material I had seen before and believe will wear quite well over time.

Not bad, but a couple of things bother me about the review:

This is a product not only of that rearward weight distribution but of the hard tyres.

Our cars don't have rearward weight distribution. We're actually front-heavy at 54/46 w/driver.

One of its little peculiarities that I love is how easy it is to lock the rear wheels briefly when coming down through the gears.

I think he needs to learn how to rev-match. I've never once locked my rear wheels on a downshift, whether on the track or street.

But I could not agree more with this statement he made.

It's no mega horsepower car with an auto gearbox and flappy paddles. It is a proper, ballsy driving machine.

Completely agree. These cars are back-to-basics, lightweight RWD sports cars. They're not about setting the fastest laptimes using dual-clutch gearboxes and turbos bolted on econobox hatches. They're about the driver connection and feel you get with a purpose built sports car.

In fact the BRZ has the lowest centre of gravity of any car on sale. Boy does it feel it. It also has 45:55 front:rear weight distribution. You also feel this. The BRZ just loves to hang out its back end slightly.

Damn, review guy-- get your facts straight. IIRC our cars are almost 60:40 front rear aren't they?

The rest of the review is pretty good, except for that weird bit where he talks about locking up the rears on downshifts. Learn to drive stick, dude!
