HID Reverse Lights

anybody do it? i've found some 15W T10 kits online and am kinda interesting in doing it as LEDs are just useless. my brake lights provide more light when i'm reversing than my LEDs. and yea i could go back to stock bulbs, but i'd rather keep it white all around.

if you have done it, where'd you buy it from and what are your thoughts?

I've heard stories on other forums that people don't use HID's as reverse light's cause it'll melt the housing.

I have LED reverse lights, but to be honest, it doesn't really make a difference in lighting, it just looks better. I got mine from a vendor here, just look in the lights section and you'll see them. I got the max reverse titans or something like that.

I believe HID's run a lot cooler than incandescent bulbs. Has someone confirmed their housings melted or was it just a thought? HID kits are so cheap these days, it's not a bad idea. I'm personally trying to find a bright set of license plate lights that look like the IS350 (uniform blanket of light) and not 2 white bulbs beaming down on the plate...not doing HID for that lol.

Yea plus since they're reverse lights they won't really be on for long periods of time

Problem is they take a minute or two to warm up. The LED backup lights I got from a vendor here are really nice and bright.

There are different LED upgrades for reverse lights and they vary in brightness:

quick bursts are bad for HID bulbs, thats why they shouldnt be used in our highbeam slots.

Most HID reverse lights are rated at 15w which is much lower than the traditional 35w and 55w kits out for the headlights/fog lights. Melting the housing shouldn't be an issue since you are not going to be staying in reverse long enough (for most cases at least), but it can still happen if its on long enough.

Personally, I would go with an LED setup for the reverse lights since the light is instant and is already at maximum brightness whereas HID's require warm up time, typically 5-10 seconds and it would suck to just sit in reverse for a few seconds just to warm it up to see behind you.

The only person who needs HID's in her reverse lights is this kid!

Honestly, it's a waste of time since you only reverse for a short period of time.
