Looking for wheels

Hey Guys,

My 86 is about a week away and I can't believe the "dreaded wait" is almost finally over!! So in preparation for the arrival I am starting to look at possible upgrades for the wheels as I am getting a GT model.

I am looking to get 18" wheels and I am a bit of a noob when it comes to this - looking to become a pro so I can maintain my 86 for many years to come, this will be my first enthusiast car :-)

So I am sure that when it comes to custom fitting wheels, certain wheel measurements must be taken into consideration (depth, width) - is anyone able to shed any light on this? or point me to a good website that might help.

Also, once I have the correct measurements - what is the best way to go about ordering wheels - A good mate of mine has said to buy online and get shipped international as it will be a lot cheaper. Can anyone suggest good sites to look at?

From a quick Google search I have found the following:

http://www.wheelwarehouse.com
http://www.wheelbasealloys.com/toyot...41_GT86_1482_6

Thanks,

Michael

hi Micheal,

let me ask you a few questions first:

1. what is your budget (wheels + tyres);
2. what is the purpose for the wheels/tyres? for look? performance?

a few links that will be helpful:

https://www.rsracing.com/tech-wheel.html

http://www.needforspeed.co.uk/htmlpages/TechWheels.htm

http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tiretech/tiretech.jsp

with ordering, depends on what brand you want. in the past a few US shops were willing to post overseas but a few of them will not do this anymore.

Do you have a customs broker? This is not the same as buy a $100 toner cartridge.

what Nardi said. tirerack are dirt cheap compared to local aus prices and will ship most brands to Australia but not OZ, BBS, Yokohama and Hankook. There are ways around this (freight forwarding etc).

and of course:

Hey Guys,

Thanks for the info. In regards to my budget - I really don't have any concept of what this will cost, looking at about $1500-$1700 for wheels and tires? I am going to have to start looking at prices online AUS and US to compare. I prefer to do it once and do it properly. I will start my research tonight.

It will be more for looks but at the same time I don't want to sacrifice drive quality. I saw an 86GT at my dealership with 18" black matte rims and it looked awesome - so wanting to go for something similar.

It was these: http://www.talebtyres.com.au/product...t=&part_no=854

And after doing a quick search I really like the style of the Tenzo R wheels: http://www.fwt.net.au/products.asp?index=TENZO+R+WHEELS

Is this a good brand?

Thanks for all the tech reading material - I will look into it tonight. That Wheel Fitment Chart thread is great!!

Tenzo R? err i have never had them so i don't know but i'd personally stick to stock wheels.....

to get something decent, $1,500 can only get you wheels. you need at least another grand for tyres on top.

have you looked at the Enkei brand? their Racing Series and Tuning Series wheels are good quality and affordable.

Your easiest option is to give Aaron at Import Monster a visit. He's the 86 / BRZ / Wheel & Suspension setup expert!

But my stock wheels are way too small haha

Cool thanks for the heads up re: price. I guess that seems alright - I'll check out Enkei. Really like the look of the Tenzo-R's - i'll do some research...

I've fallen in love...

http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=18397

http://www.superstreetonline.com/tec.../photo_14.html

Anyone know a release date and rough price range for the Enkei RS05RR?

These look good too: http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=13047

How easy it to re-spray wheels to a different colour and texture? does it last?

Thanks for the recommendation for Enkei - I like them and they seem really good quality. I didn't have to search for long to find out that Tenzo-R's are pretty shite

The RS05RR should have been out last year. Send enkei an email to see if they have more info.

These enkeis are not forged so shouldn't be too expensive. Depends on size I don't expect them to be over $2k for a set. (Only a guess tho)

With changing colour, smash repairers can do them.

Cool - thanks man

I'd only change colour if I go for the Enkei Racing RS05 - as it seems they only come in silver. I'm looking for a black/charcoal matt, and it looks like the RS05RR comes in that colour

I'll send Enkei an email to get some info

Tenzo looks like a another 'rota' style replicia company. I see BBS LM's and TE37 reps that they make. Dont support reps!
