Windows not working after a cold night...

Temperature dipped just below freezing last night up here in Toronto. The car was covered in ice and after letting everything melt I drove to work.

Got out of the car today and realized the driver window won't go up all the way. It drops down like usual when the door is opened but it refuses to return once the door is closed. Only way to get it to close is by using the control on the interior...which means my window is down whenever I'm parked.

My passenger side window automatically slides down and returns as expected but the interior control will not work at all on this window now.

Dropping it off at Toyota/Scion tonight. Little disappointed that the first bit of cold completely ruined my windows. Anyone else having similar issues?

Maybe we have to clean all the ice off of the windows before opening the doors. What a pain.

Sorry to hear that. Maybe if you disconnect the battery for a bit (about an hour or so) reconnect it and try again?

oh man will the issues with this car never end? I had been planning on getting one after the engine issues got sorted, but now thread after thread is cropping up with all manner of quality issues and I'm starting to get seriously disappointed. So much for Japanese reliability...

I haven't had any issues. People are mislead because almost everyone with an issue voices it but very few who have had no issues are being overly vocal. Takes 100 "That a Boy"'s to undo 1 "Oppps"

Agreed. People without problems have no reason to say much, so you dont hear about them. I am sure there are actually lots of people who are having no problems at all with their Toyobaru's and just have no need to talk about it.

My windows worked fine this morning (30 degrees F), so slightly below freezing. I did have frost on the windows.

Can you even get into the BIOS? Or does it not boot up at all? Maybe moisture shorted the motherboard.

It probably needs to be re-set, I think it's a fairly simple procedure from what the technicians tell me.

Then again I might just be thinking of the procedure to re-set the auto-up/auto-down feature.

Good news. I took it into the Dealer last night and was able to fix everything within 5 minutes. The guy thought it was strange as well.
He told me there's a combination of up/down on the window controls that reset the computer. He did that and everything seemed to work like it was new again.

This is the first issue I've had with this car though. I'd probably consider driving all winter with the windows down before giving it away!

Thanks for the encouragement Don't get me wrong. I love this car and I want to stay in love with it. But there are way more reports in this forum about things being broken on new cars than there are in forums for other makes. Is that simply how it is with Subarus? Are their other cars like that as well?

...and I am pleased to see the happy outcome of OP's window problem
