Lightbulb Dual flush mount LED trunk lights.

Here is a full album showing how I replaced the crappy stock trunk light.

Stock trunk light

This thing is absolutely dismal, it's dim, and if you put anything the full height of the trunk inside on the left it blocks the light. Some vendors sell kits to add a LED strip but I didn't think that would be durable so I came up with my own solution.

Poking around in the trunk lying on my back I found a few holes in the crossmember at the decklid. Most of them are oval, but there are two round ones in a good location for a light. The holes are 1 1/8th so I ordered these LED work lights. They were the best thing I could find that fit, but pretty pricey. http://www.maxxima.com/products/prod...l#.UqfRnKXOXww

I was able to verify that they fit through the hole by moving the surround out of the way.

This surround needs to be removed, I used tin snips

The controller will not fit through because the hole is too shallow, so we have to feed the led in from the backside.

I fed the wires through a different hole than the one pictured here, this is the right side. The bulb goes first.

Then pull the grommet through.

Seat the grommet in the hole first and push the bulb in place.

Fits like a glove

Repeat of the other side.

Controller mounted with velcro, this picture is the right side taken from inside the car with the seats down. Installation of the other side is mirrored.

This was before I secured the wiring, so you can see that hanging down. I just used a length of wire and crimps to join the lamps together. If you unplug the stock lamp you can can put spade connectors in the plug, if you wire the LEDs backwards they will not illuminate, just switch the wires around and you are in business. Both this and the next picture were taken with the same settings on my camera.

I might try sanding the lenses to get the light to disperse more, but they are so much better than before.

How it feels to look into the trunk now:
