Quick question re: 6-speed cars

Sorry, I wasn't sure what to search for here, and I couldn't find the information I was looking for on Scions site.

The FRS I test drove a few weeks back was an automatic. I placed my order for a 6-speed after we got back to the dealership. The car I drove had different "modes" for sport and snow...Buttons were right behind the main shift lever. My question is whether those are still there on the 6-speed, and if so, what exactly changes in each mode. If not, what is available on the 6-speed?

Thanks to anyone who can help give a little insight!

No they won't be.

The different modes are specifically for the AT. Snow mode makes it start it 2nd gear.

So they're both 6 speed transmissions (the manual and the automatic). The sport and snow bottons are there only for the automatic transmission and they change the shifting algorithms.

the automatic 6-speed is a torque converter box just FYI. basically snow mode makes it engage 2nd from the start so you dont have a lot of tq instantly, and the sport mode just bumps the shifting point and makes the trans stay in gear a bit longer when you aren't WOT.

manual doesn't have any because the initial TQ and rpm shifting points and hang time is all done by the driver.

SPORT mode in Auto is a hella fun - it does sport downshifting and is quick as hell. i love it and i didnt evven know all about what it can do until i took the car out to the canyon for a fast run - -now i cant stay away from there every wknd.. love the auto sport mode - like a jeckyl-hyde for the usually booring auto tranny.

Thanks everyone! I figured it was in the transmission, but couldn't confirm it anywhere...someone was telling me it also did something to the suspension, but I figured that wasn't correct info

incorrect! it "plays" with the gear ratios, making the '"slush" "boucoup"
versatile! car's a "hoot" with either transmission!..just sayin'

If you ended up ordering the Manual, then you will retain the Traction Control and VSC Sport Buttons. Shifting is completely you. The Automatic has the additional buttons that change how the Automatic behaves. Your friend that was talking about it affecting the suspension may have been talking about how different levels of the VSC affect the dynamics of the vehicle (i.e., that VSC Sport will allow you to walk the back end out more than normal mode would let you). VSC Off is the extreme with no intervention by the Stability Control.
