Door 6.5's stock vs. Infinity Reference
OK, so I didn't do all my homework before ordering speakers.. I ordered some Infinity coaxial 6.5's thinking the door speakers were full range. Obviously they're subwoofers.... They're stock, but the magnet weight and construction looks decent, and more substantial than the Infinity coaxials.
Is there a crossover already cutting off highs on the doors? if so the coaxial's would be getting bass only. Is it even worth it to mess with swapping these out based on the mismatch? For bkg, I swapped out the rear's for infinity reference 3.5 coax units, and had planned a set of Polk 4" for the front but their magnet is too large and interferes with the duct work so they're staying stock for now. No sub/amp planned at the moment. Im not looking for a huge system, just something better than the stock setup. The head unit is a generic Android unit, claiming about 45watts / channel I think. It seems at least 1.5x's the power of the stock unit. |

I would put the Ref 3.5's in the dash and leave the rears unhooked or put the factory back in.
For the 6.5's i have read that they aren't crossed over and allow the mid to roll off naturally, most coaxials don't have a crossover on the mid anyways so you should be fine and they actually may make use of the tweeter. Might as well give it a try i'm interested to know because i'm looking at JBL Power mids only or coaxials for my doors also. The coaxials would save me about $50 so let me know how it works out. |

I'm not sure if this is a thread jack or not, but since the door speakers are actually subs, I was wondering how much the bass improved by deadening and sealing the doors. I know that sealing the doors my Si made a huge difference in how the OEM speakers sounded.
For those of you who aren't familiar with the term "seal" typically it's done using sound deadening mat on the door panels to remove vibrations and covering up the openings in the door so that the back wave of air pressure from the speaker doesn't enter the cabin. It made a huge difference in my last car, so before I go to the trouble of installing a sub, I was wondering if this might help.

I haven't got to my doors yet, did the rear deck, trunk, and inside the side panels where the rear speakers are last weekend. It made quite an improvement, i'm hoping to do the doors this weekend.
