Not a Toyota, Not a Subaru

So tried broadening my horizons so to speak and went to a couple of local car meets. Normally i hang out with a group of Nissan owners but with the FR-S it seemed appropriate to introduce myself to the local Toyota crowd...well it seems that the FR-S does not qualify as a real Toyota due to "just having" a Subaru motor. Fair enough. Introduce myself to the local Subaru group...nice guys...but the overall opinion of the car is "its not really" a Subaru since it is RWD and NA. Whatever... back to the Nissan crowd it is...at least they have respect and an understanding for this platform whether its a Nissan or not. BTW i am not saying these guys were bad guys, just lacking respect for anything not traditional. end rant/

The crowd at the track.

Look for the local SCCA or NASA group. You will not only find a bunch of new friends. You might not be able to get them to stop talking to you about the car! Not sure if you are anywhere near Pacific Raceway. If you are. Find a track day and get out there immediately! The downhill corkscrew complex there is one of the coolest sections of race track ANYWHERE on the planet!

As a Toyota guy and car guy in general, the car doesn't really feel like a Subaru or a Toyota. It feels like both and neither at the same time. Subaru and Toyota are similar in a lot of ways though, and despite their differences they do share some common building themes and methodology and share a lot of suppliers.

Either way, while I get what you're saying I'd like to say it doesn't matter to me really. The car is what it is, and that is fine by me.

Maybe you're approaching the wrong groups. Some groups have an exclusivity and/or elitist complex. Any Toyota or Subaru 'enthusiast' group that discriminates against this car doesn't comprehend the logic and soul behind this car. And I'll have to agree with Jedi1 that auto-cross crowds are some of the most informative and chill groups of people willing to give tips and help you out. I also find that more generic car gatherings such as Cars and Coffee here in PDX offer folks with a broader love for cars and can respect a car such as the FRS/BRZ.

uh what do you expect in Kitsap man? LOL

(I've lived in edmonds for a while)

I found the PNW to be very clickish in the asian car arena, possibly because of its proximity to the asian subcontinent; and so many immigrants from each country accordingly.

There are almost more 'asians' (no offense meant guys!-we brothers) than americans in seattle. I think we East Indians come in pretty close, with the IT companies there an all.

If you like Pho and thai food and Korean BBQ, PNW is heaven! How I miss dim sum.

But hard to be happy with so little sun, thats why I left, and now live in the land of never ending sun and retarded politicians. Its no wonder they hatin..

I spent time in a Fiat Abarth, an S2000 and took both my students for laps in the FRS at the end of the day (managed a 2:10 as well).

I was very tired on the drive home to say the least. You should definitely sign up for the 29th and they have a deal going where you get a discount (a pretty good one too) if you sign up for both days 29th and 30th!!

I won't be on there on that weekend though because I have a race at Pacific Raceways and I have to go defend my championship.

Are you willing to drive to Bremerton once a week just to hang out with other 86 owners?
