Had a little fender bender yesterday...

Was on my way to work yesterday morning, making a left turn on a green arrow, when somebody decided to run the red. They have insurance, admitted fault, were ticketed etc.

So now I'm a bit torn. If my STi is totaled out, do I buy a beater to get me by for the next year, and save the cash to put towards my FR-S? Do I buy another 04-05 STi? If it's repaired, should I take any pain and suffering money + devaluation payments and set it aside, then trade in the STi next year on the FR-S?

I had been planning on keeping the STi AND buying a FR-S, so my 240SX would have a RWD friend, but at this point I'm not really sure what I want to do. My biggest gripe is that the STi was an 04 (the lightest of the ones we got in the U.S.), Java Black Pearl, Gold BBS's, tastefully modded, and in perfect shape with 66k miles on it, I don't think I can find one nearby for a reasonable price. I want to stab the woman that hit me.

No way that is totaled unless it's got like 200k miles

But to answer your question I'd buy a beater that you can resell fairly easy for when this comes out.

Aprons are damaged, radiator and condenser are destroyed, new STi headlights are 750 a piece. The new panels alone, (since the other driver uses state farm, and they actually use new OEM parts for repair) is over 7k. I also forgot to mention that something was on fire under the hood after the hit.

It's all up to you. resell it & save it up for FRS is an option... or you can keep and Bulbeyes STi are rare around here too.

FYI, it doesn't matter what insurance say, I can tell you, STi's chassis screwed. Specially front part. Subaru chassis designs are somewhat strong against + angle (front, rear, left, right), but when it get hit by x angle, they're weak.

Aw, dude that sucks.

I can relate: a woman driver VERY NEARLY (6 inches) side swiped the rear of my precious car. I can't imagine what would happen if she totalled it.

Anyways, I don't know what to say, the FT won't come out for awhile yet, I'd just take the money from your 04 and use your 02 trailblazer as a DD until then, and then use the money for a decent down payment on it when it comes out.

Have you gotten an estimate yet? The damage is bad but it may not be totaled. I believe the damages have to equal or pass 50% of the value of the car or if the frame is bent before they decide to total it out.

If it is, see how much it'll cost to buy it back from the insurance company verses them hauling it away. That thing will make an excellent track car!

Well, the body shop's estimate is just under $8,000 for now, but that is pending review after sending a parts list to Subaru to get accurate prices. They're also sending the car to Subaru to have a new timing belt put on so they can start the car and see if everything is running correctly or not, and get an estimate from them for mechanical repair. After all that, they'll be able to tell me weather or not it's getting fixed, or totaled out.

What's do you owe, if you don't mind me asking? If it's 8k before they have it running or final pricing, I'm leaning towards total.

+1 on what RRnold said... good track car or be the first to swap that motor into your FR-S and part out the rest.

I owe about 5k on it. KBB private seller and dealer seller for an 04 STi sedan in excellent condition (which is was before it got hit) with 66,500 miles is just over $20,000. Trade in is around $17,000. Also, I just got back from the dealership and talked to some friends there. They're going to be VERY thorough on their assessment of the mechanical damage for me. They also said they'd provide me a copy of the recommended repair/replace list that they provide the adjuster. So yeah, fingers crossed that they total it. Either way, she's getting replaced with a Subiyota/Toyobaru next year.

Mmm, that is a tough call but I have a hunch that the repairs are not going to exceed the amount to total it out; especially since the KBB value is still high and it's only a front end damage. If you got t-boned or rolled it then definitely.

Since their insurance company is covering the damages, make sure you get every $ you can! :happy0180:

Also majority of the claims dept factor in KBB but also the price of used STI's within a 50-100 mile radius called an ACV (actual cash value) when totaling a vehicle out since it's used. So if there is a used STI at some random hole-in-the-wall dealership for like 12K, that will greatly affect how much they are going to settle.

If they start ****ing you around, be sure to get multiple estimates. Not sure about where you are in GA, but you can usually find some higher end repair shops to go to (tip: call your local Porsche dealer and see who they send their body work to).

Yes this is a great point. No harm in having other places give you an estimate.
