Do real car enthusiasts go to MotorWeek for the latest news? That thing plays like a paid advertisement. It might be something that can attract attention in Montgomery County, Maryland.
Biff: I just saw this nifty little car on TV. It looks like fun. It is made by Subaru.
Muffy: Subaru? Isn't that sort of car that ordinary people buy?
Biff: It does look rather fun and besides our young Harry will be getting his driver's license this year and it would be a good car for him for school.
Muffy: Alright then, if you must, but remember I have an orchid show this weekend and you promised to go.

Sorry, MotorWeek just does not get it done. I like it when the review talks smack about my potential new ride.

What I find interesting is Motorweek's podcast is a little more candid when compared to what you see from the host on the TV show/video. I find the TV show unwatchable, but will use up a day's commute every couple weeks to listen to their podcast. You get better feedback from the other staff members you never see on camera.

Even then I have noticed the staff as a whole does not seem to be as knowledgeable of the industry or many of the vehicles they discuss as you'd think.

Personally, I find their reviews consistent and useful for basic comparisons and information without the hype. They treat and review cars as they are typically used (driving on the road), with enough "soft track" use to convey information about the car to make me decide whether to dig in further. Same with their motorcycle reviews.

So, I sometimes use their reviews to decide if I want plow through other more "enthusiast" hype about a car.

Your review mileage may vary, of course.

Watching MotorWeek is like going back in time for me. It is the OG, old school, classic video car review. Flipping through the channels as a kid looking for cartoons and you stumble across public television and MotorWeek is reviewing the 1997 Honda Prelude? Incredible.

All the youtuberz are just tring to be MotorWeek.

But also I grew up in Montgomery County, Maryland.

Man, I've been watching Motor Week for 30 years. Legit comfort food.

Nice to see them actually point out the low rpm throttle feel... That's one thing I've noticed and Motor Week doesn't usually pick out such specific things.

My son-in-law is from Frederick. Also, had an aunt and uncle who lived in Olney. Biff and Muffy would normally reside in Darien, Connecticut, but I wanted it to be relevant for their sake. Prince George and Howard Counties are actually the richest, Frederick is #7 and MoCo about #14.

Motorweek is or was filmed around Frederick and Montgomery County MD. I wasn't sure if that was part of the joke lol.

Seems like I recall seeing their show on PBS or broadcast TV and their address was Owings Mills, MD. My daughter lives in Baltimore near Catonsville. I keep getting Robo-calls from Cockeysville, MD so I answer the call thinking it just might be legit. Anyway, I still prefer independent reviews from people who honestly tell you about the shortcomings as well as strengths. I nearly had my mind made up, but one review that I watched motivated me to purchase my 2017 BRZ. John Cadogan, from Australia, gave a no-nonsense review. One thing that struck me was his comments about the the car being underpowered. To paraphrase, “If you can drive this car to it’s full potential and then if you can honestly say that it needs more horsepower, you need to buy a different car.”
