The Tip, and ONLY the Tip: Rate my Exhaust Tips

Left or Right? I think left is how it should have come from the factory.

Right is stock, Left is with our added bits.

I don't know about anyone else, but I'm still not seeing the images in your post.

However, I was able to harvest the links by clicking "quote", so here are the images attached via the forum's hosting.

edit: In response to the poll, I don't like either. Right is too far in and left is too far out.

I’m guessing left has been extended somewhere in the 2.5” - 3” range.
I extended mine 2.5” and the tip sits flush with the top edge of the diffuser.
I wouldn’t want it poking out any more than that.
But left looks better IMO.

Correction, I extended my tips 2” (not 2.5”) for a flush fit.

Since the rear is curved, it really depends on perspective. The spacer brings the tip out 2".

It's flush on the top inner corner of the bumper/diffuser, and protruding everywhere else, but not by a lot.

This was just a starting point, and I really had no idea where to start, but based on looking at several cars we have here: few STIs, 911, C63 exhaust 'tip protrusion' I ballparked spacing it out to what looked to be about the same.

I think anywhere further out than OEM is going to be better, but at some point, it's going to look silly. As they say, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. To me beyond 2.5"... maybe 3" would be too much for me... but sticking out 1" is still better than stock.

The nice thing is, you can hang the stock one out some, if that's all you want. I wouldn't go beyond a little thought, otherwise you're not holding nearly as much, the tube you screw to deforms more easily the closer you get to the end of it, and the tip is far more likely to vibrate off. Which is why I made the spacers. Everything is very snug and far less likely to come apart over time when using the spacers. You could adjust it out further with them, but I wouldn't go more than another 1/2" or so.

As somebody who had the JDM tips on his FRS I prefer the slightly longer look.

Of course by the time I get to removing them the screw that holds them in place is probably going to be rusted in place and the head will snap off.

If it's something you think you might do in the future, pop the screw out now and lather it up with some anti-seize and put it back in. That should at least give you a fighting chance down the road.
