Pilot Super Sports

Its getting close to the time to pickup my car, hopefully, and i want to start looking at tires. I've had Michelin Pilot's before and liked them, but i was wondering if anyone has had the super sports on their cars and has any opinions on them? Or if you know of a good tire please let me know. Gonna be running Rota Grids 18x8.5 and 18x9.5.

supersports a great commuter tire at 300tw
try the star specs at 200tw or go lower if youre not at all concerned about mileage

for the first year the car will mostly be my daily drive to and from work so milage is not a BIG deal. I'm not looking to do alot of track at first, gonna work on paying it off before i beat the crap out of it lol.

I really liked mine on my Si. No max performance summer tire is going to have good tread life, but the super sports did seem decent for the category. Very good grip, stability and steering response. Can't comment too much on how they handle heat because I never ended up autocrossing with them as I just used my RT-615's.

That said unless you are going for some pretty substantial power upgrades very early on, you're likely to end up disappointed with your intended setup. For one with wheels that wide you're going to need fat tires. Super sports that are that wide are going to be way more grip than the car is set up for or needs and will likely screw up the balance.

In addition super wide tires are going to add a lot of weight so you're likely to end up going slower than you would with stock size wheels and 215 super sports. Not to mention you will be paying more for all that extra rubber.

All the top cars, minus 1, at one lap of america ran Super Sports. They are a high performance tire with top level performance. The downside to them is they shouldn't be flipped (they are marked inside and outside) so you can't manage wear out of them like you could the Star Specs or similar.

Imagine the SuperSports are just as grippy as the PS2's, but they give you more mileage, and they're less expensive. Most importantly of all, they actually last longer than a year, the treadwear rating is higher than the PS2's are, so you can actually pull out of the driveway without having a tire go completely bald.

I've driven on them before, not on a FRS but on a car that had PS2's previously, and honestly you can't tell much difference, it could actually be one of the best tires currently on the market today, but there is still a steep price difference between that and lets say Hankooks, or Kuhmos for example.

I have them on mine with 225/35/19 all the way around and they are great.

I have 225/45-17 super sports mounted on my Enkei PF01 17x8 +35 right now. I decided on the tires because I wanted a good balance between treadwear and performance. I commute about 20,000 miles a year and plan on autocrossing. These seemed perfect for that. I've only had the tires a week, but so far they're doing well.
