best brakes from rock auto?
Hi GT club, I'm pricing out front rotors and pads for all four wheels on my FR-s, autzone quoted me at $200. I was considering buying from rock auto, what's the best I can do for the same price parts wise? There were a lot of brands and I dont want to buy junk.

Can't go wrong with Centric premium blanks:
Front: 120.47021 ($37.79/ea right now on Rock Auto) Rear: 120.47031 ($31.79/ea right now on Rock Auto) These have the coated hats to mitigate oxidation (rust). You can get the regular non-coated ones for about half the cost. |

I usually scroll to the 'daily driver' and 'performance' categories, and then shop based on what makes me feel good. In this case, I'd reach for power stop or centric parts in those categories. But it's really just because they sound right to me, and no other reason.

+1 on centric. They've worked for me on other vehicles. For inexpensive replacements that's what I've ordered from rockauto.
They are the supplier for the stop tech rotors from my understanding, which rockauto also lists. For pads, the powerstops z23 catch my eye. They seem like a OEM plus option. That's with no research though, and simply basing it off the part description. |

Another believer in centric. Have the ones with coated hats on all my cars. For brakes, there are so many. Just remember the better braking options usually produce more noise and dust. For me with spirited driving the stock brakes work fine. If you tract, autox or drive more spirited than me you might want better pads. I have used stop tech pads in my WRX and they work well but create so much dust. I have used hawk as well. Since I am mostly DD and some mountain runs, almost any pad will work.

Centric blank rotors are good, and durable. Never had an issue and no cracking from poorly slotted/drilled offerings!

Centrics have two flaws from what i gathered so far. IIRC there was guy that mentioned slightly higher average temps with those vs OE or stoptech rotors, and they are good value for US customers, not so for EU on other side of pond. Shipping of something as heavy will kill any price advantage and their local availability there is meh.

Just echo-ing the above, Centric Premium blanks are also my go-to rotors in any daily driven car (high carbon version if it's my own car that I drive hard).
For pads, Centric Posi-Quiet Ceramic's if Akebono isn't available (for daily driving). |

Thanks for all of the replies, I'm leaning towards the power stop z23 pads and centric blanks. I won't be tracking the car until I a) graduate or b) I hit 200k miles, at which point I'll be doing a full tear down of everything and supercharging. The plan is to reduce all of the unsprung weight (rims, brake set-up) and replace or upgrade major motor parts for the supercharger (on a stock block, goal is 280-300hp). So for now, I need to put some easy miles on the car.
![]() While I'm here, I should mention that I'll be replacing the clutch and spark plugs this summer and was wondering if I should replace or adjust the valves. I searched and found a lot of threads about the recall but couldn't seem to find a guide. There is a toyota manual (j02) but one with pictures is worth a thousand words. |
