Consequences?
I’ll be installing an Edelbrock S/C on my otherwise stock engine soon. A CSG stage 1 tune will be used.
What would be the consequence of tuning for 94 octane fuel but having to use 91 octane in a pinch? 94 can be hard to find in rural (northern) areas of Ontario. 91 would just be a stopgap until finding a 94 station and only during street driving. Not on track. Thanks in advance for your constructive responses. |

It could knock, in response the ECU will pull timing and drop IAM.

If your tuning with ecutek just have the tuner give you a safe 91oct map. You can change maps while driving via the cruise control stalk. Let your default tune be map 1 and your low performance map for the other one. If you ever put 91 in the car- switch maps and a never worry again.

Thanks all!
I will discuss the dual map option with my CSG tuner. If it’s as simple as a stroke of the cruise control switch, I’m in. |

Old thread, but couldn't you just keep a bottle of octane booster in the truck for those times?

Depends on which bottle you mean, it must be something that works like bardhal bsf
Also would be wise to make a map using normal fuel + this booster and retune with that |

I don't know if this is relevant, but my Porsche-Club group ran Mosport once and were all about to fill up on 91, which was all we could find. A local guy came by and hipped us to where we could get 93. The only guy who missed the tip filled his 944 Porsche turbo with 91 and burned a valve. He had to take it back to the states on a trailer.
