Yeah it’s normal, you learn to live with it. Sounds a bit alarming but that’s just the sound of the engine/drivetrain

Thanks for the reply, definitely is alarming! I know these engines make a ton of random noises, but this one scared me a bit as I don't know if its damaging at all.

Confirm all your Header bolts are tight. I had a weird rattle on first twin way back when I had my Borla UEL header as 1-2 bolts are a PITA to get tight. When i took it off I found 1 bolt really loose and another semi loose...

I'm pretty sure I read on here people saying that the reverse lockout on the shifter can rattle a bit when applying throttle. Certain that isn't the noise? Mine does that sometimes depending on how fast I'm going, road quality, etc.

It could also be a heat shield. Every Subaru I've ever had including this one have a rattly heat shield at some point. This one rattles badly right at 4k RPM but not above or below. I stopped being concerned with it a long time ago. Hopefully they'll find that rattle when they have the motor out next month for the recall work to be done.

Another alarming rattle is one that comes from the spring inside the clutch master cylinder. I get it very infrequently when it's particularly hot under the hood, always resonates at around 4K. Disappears as soon as I lightly tap the pedal.

@MilkyWitness

Make sure you haven't toasted your throw out bearing. Mine was rattling when hot, drove me nuts because I was afraid the fuel pump might have been going bad, or maybe timing chain, or other thing.

Sound clip. It would rattle worse when in gear.

I know your car is new though but it might be worth checking (each TOB I had before lasted ~50k miles before needing replacement.)

Just had my throw out bearing replaced (along with other recall work). Got it back yesterday, seems to have fixed the issue.
