Nav swap
Since our cars are twins and almost all parts are identical I have a question about electrical. I have a '19 86 without nav. Would really like to have nav. Will a nav unit from an FRS or BRZ work in the Toyota? Did Subaru/Scion/Toyota all have the same wiring? I would figure so but not sure. Does anyone know? Thanks

I added the NAV module (purchased off eBay) to a 2014 Pioneer OEM radio (purchased from here from an owner that upgraded) and it all fit easily in my '13 with no wiring changes.

No my head unit is not a nav capable unit. I was under the impression that the nav units are an all in one. As in the nav module is inside the nav head unit.

With regards to swapping around head units from previous model year FR-S/86s, unless Toyota changed the wiring around in the 2019 86, you shouldn't have much of a problem (perhaps maybe the back-up camera if going with a 2015 or earlier unit).
BRZs are slightly different from 2016 and up; the speaker wire is located on a different connector, so it wouldn't be a plug-and-play deal; you'd lose your door speakers otherwise. Otherwise, 2015 and older have identical wiring IIRC. I would do some research either way, as some members have complained about their Starlink units. If you plan on getting a new head unit, why not look into the aftermarket? Do you wish to stay OEM? |

Not really interested in aftermarket units. Think I am gonna switch gears and find a slick phone mount and just use Google Maps. Thanks
