Loud squeaking AC/Heater blower fan-my fix

Not sure if this has ever happened to others, but my AC/Heater fan would make a occasional squeak when it was below freezing outside for years.

Few days ago after a 2 hr trip in freezing weather the squeaking suddenly became very load and continuous. If I turned the climate system off, it was gone. The air still seemed to be blowing normally.

So what I did was take the in-cabin filter out and spray the top of the motor/fan with a ton of WD 40 (with the fan off and then with it on). Put filter back in. All noises are gone. Better than ever.

Well see if and when the squeaking sound comes back.

Anyone else have this issue?

It'll come back after the heavier fractions of the wd40 finally evaporate.

Most likely the brushes are squeaking. New motor is about $175.

No, but if the squeak comes back, you might give it a shot of silicone spray next time.

Hey, just want to give an update....since using WD40 once as outlined in my first post above, the fan has remained quiet since DEC 2017! Going to change the in cabin filter this week and will give the fan a second WD40 treatment just to be sure.

How about that! Results don't lie.
Thanks for updating. Very cool.
