Hyundai/Kia admit to faking MPG test.

EPA mileage estimates are performed by the auto companies not by the EPA, which only spot checks to assure compliance. After an investigation, Hyundai and Kia admitted to overstating MPG on almost their entire line, by several percentage points.

http://blogs.wsj.com/drivers-seat/20...onomy-sticker/

Note: This thread belongs in the general because of recent discussions as to why the FR-S appeared to underperform on the EPA MPG figures.
Now we have the answer - honesty on Toyota's part.

...somebody should tell those genesis coupe owners that the hp numbers are fudged too.

I drove a 2.0 genesis turbo the other day, felt slower than my wife's tc.....

I want to like hyundai.. I really do. But I can't avoid thinking that they are sketchy. Used to just be build quality I figured, but now it's car specs.

This reminds me of the time I went to a Kia dealership to help my cousin buy her first car. The dealer would not stop going on and on about how Kia is a "true Japanese motor company" and how their cars, since they are "Japanese", "get fantastic gas mileage and have some of the best reliability in the world." Being a car guy, I knew he was spewing BS from the beginning, and I decided to make him look like an idiot. After doing that, I talked with his manager, and he could do nothing but apologize for the actions of the idiot salesperson. Long story short, my cousin was looking to get a brand new Forte ($15,995), but ended up with a brand new Optima for $15,995.

i'm a hyundai dealer.
their "dyno" in korea was calibrated wrong, which is why the cars were not performing as stated. we have had customer complaints about it, but we couldn't answer why...

most of them were 2 or 1 mpg off. hyundai is issuing a recall for all the vehicles and administering each person a debit card that can be reimbursed each year, based on mileage put on the car, for as long as you own it....even if you traded in a model year affected, you qualify.

never know, there can be others also now that this is out. hyundai's mileage is still great no matter what. they just fucked up their claims. at least they aren't saying go fuck yourself and are reimbursing the customers.

they are pretty good cars. we were a chevy dealer. and have a toyota dealer. many of our cars beat toyota's side to side. hyundai have great looks to them also and features. we were't happy ditching chevy at first, we had to. i still love chevrolet product.

you just need proof you owned the vehicle. maybe like an insurance card from the past etc. you'll get reimbursed just once since you don't own the car anymore.
