transmission leak

I spotted a bit of oil right where the driveshaft is attached to the transmission. It's a 2013 with 25k km on it.

Leak or normal?

Oh, I don't really know. It could be a leaking rear transmission seal.

However, before you do any major surgery, I'd suggest you clean up the area real good and then drive it for a spell to see if the oil residue returns.

Checked again now, and there is a drop of fresh oil. It might have dripped, so its difficult to say how much it has actually leaked. There is no oil on the garage floor.

Is there an easy way of finding the oil level in the transmission? I'm doing an end-of-warranty check next year, it would be nice to postpone repairs until then, but obviously i don't want to break anything.

That's just a tiny bit of weeping. Inconsequential. In comparison, mine leaked about 200 mL after installing the driveshaft with a little piece of sawdust in the seal. It made a huge mess burning all over the exhaust and coated everything all the way back past the differential.

Just keep a casual eye on it. You will know well before there is any real damage.

If you are still worried about it, you could always open the transmission fill plug and check. There's a diy on here that has pictures of where that is. Might need another crush washer though? Can't remember which one has a regular steel washer.

I wouldn't worry about it unless it leaks to the point where it splatters on the undercarriage or drips onto the garage floor.

Thx guys! Checking the auto oil is actually required for the 4.th years service. So i won't worry about it until then.

I've seen dozens of 86s and have never come up to find a leak in the area. I wouldn't be extremely concerned, but it's definitely something to take a look at and fix (probably the seal went bad).
