Revvolution BRZ Build
![]() What's up everybody... Ryan with Revvolution here, wanted to finally introduce our build. Starting with a new 2014 Subaru BRZ Limited, the works. Can't quite release the full details of the build as we're doing a full documentary on our site, but I'll be releasing the details on a weekly basis here! The Gist: Developing a performance-oriented progressive build by pushing the stock platform (FA20) to its limits. The project has already begun a couple weeks ago and will be 100% complete come April. Have some pretty ballsy intentions for the build. So, our formal introduction... ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Couple days ago we posted our formal introduction to the build on Revv... Wanted to keep this thread alive! While we will be diving into the details during our full documentary, I wanted to provide a solid objective overview for the whole build. REVVOLUTION PROJECT BRZ SPEC OBJECTIVES Engine / Turbo System / Drivetrain Blueprinted, Machined & Built FA20 Engine with Supporting Mods Custom Turbo System Custom Fuel System to Match (Maintaining both Port & Direct Injection Systems) All Necessary Drivetrain Modifications (Trans, DS, Axles, etc) Suspension / Wheels / Tires / Brakes Air Lift Performance Air Suspension All Necessary Suspension & Chassis Components by CUSCO Wilwood Engineering BBK Advan Racing Wheels Yokohama Tires Interior & Electronics Fully Seam-Welded Roll Bar / Harness CUSCO / Bride Seats Full Custom Audio System Exterior Full Custom-molded Widebody Custom & Shelf Aero Here are a teaser shots for next week: ![]() ![]() And... some straight up engine / suspension porn: ![]() ![]() Update 3/3: Last week we released our next full-length build article highlighting our interior seam-welding progress. Some killer shots in there! You can check out the full article. Here's a short summary: Last week, we introduced the Revvolution.com Project BRZ, and outlined the partners involved and our overall build objectives. As you will recall, the goal for the Revvolution Project BRZ is a progressive performance build that is oriented toward high-performance street driving and moderate track applications. This week we will dive into the project with hands-on feedback as we outline our first objective: strengthening the chassis. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() This week we're tearing into the FA20 for a full assessment and comparison to the Ej-series... Update 3/6: Maybe this one will get your attention... We completely tore into our FA20 so we could assess what exactly needed to be addressed during our full engine build. This is the first official tech documentary article that we've put together for the platform and it's pretty intensive. If you plan on doing any sort of performance mods to the drivetrain, you may not want to miss this... Summary: Every week this build gets more and more interesting as we dive deeper into the inner workings o the Subaru BRZ and Scion FR-S platform. Last week we took a look at the first step in our build process: reinforcing the chassis by seam welding the structural body components. For this installment, we peel back the layers of the engine to understand what we have to work with, and where it can be improved in relation to our initial build objectives. As with any good build, you define an objective based on what you have to work with. In order to properly understand what we had to work with first hand, it was necessary that we dive into the platform’s heart. This time, we turned to SCR Performance because of their intimate knowledge of Subaru drivetrains, as well as their reputation as top engine builders. We knew they would give an accurate assessment of what areas we’d need to address as the build progresses. Some teasers: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Next week we're heading to TX2K so no updates until the following week.. But we'll be taking a look at a digital **performance** air suspension setup that we're expecting to blow away the stock setup. Update 3/30: And we’re back! Though Mother Nature didn’t cooperate for TX2K14, it didn’t dampen our spirits because we knew back home some good things were happening with Project BRZ. We’re back into the mix with our weekly documentary of the progress. To bring you up to speed, the engine is off to the machine shop where they can work their magic and we’re waiting on the remainder of the build’s components to arrive, including the widebody parts that we just finished up sourcing. Two weeks ago we tore down our FA20 (4U-GSE in the Toyota / Scion world) and did a full assessment of all components from a performance standpoint. We found a focus on cost and efficiency but that didn’t keep Subaru from pursuing performance by cramming in a lot of technology like direct-injection and adjustable cam timing. In this installment we crack open the box of our new Air Lift Performance Digital Combo Kit suspension and let you know what we found, compare and contrast to the stock suspension, and provide an initial assessment. You can check out the full article here A few excerpts... ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Note: This is SCR's project car... already outfitted with KW Suspension coilovers for comparison ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() New update... while we wait for some of our parts to show up, we decided it would be a good time to start documenting our FA20's build process. Our builders over at SCR Performance are extremely meticulous when it comes to blueprinting and measuring and establishing correct tolerances. Check it out here. Here are a couple teasers (note that this article isn't as image heavy as the past have been as it's more a technical discussion, but still some good stuff!) ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Feels like forever since we've talked about the project! But that couldn't be further from the truth. Over the past month, while we’ve been popping up all over the country participating in some of the biggest events, our partners have been hard at work with custom fabrication and, almost more importantly, tracking down the parts needed to kick this build into overdrive. Here's our latest update on the build as we source all the components for the widebody and the thought & theory behind what we plan on doing: http://www.revvolution.com/blog/2014...amp-going-wide On to the shots: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() And for those lacking any patience for next week's article, how about a little teaser? ![]() Update 5/15: So... I think it's getting a little serious ![]() We just dropped the most picture intensive article that we've done to date, and it's full of straight up mutilation, fire, sparks and babes (OK, maybe I got a little carried away on the end there). Anyhow, we built upon our last article where we documented all the parts and why, and now our partners over at SLVA are doing their magic turning our complete stock BRZ into a masterpiece. If you want to read about it and check out a ton of pics, check out the full article @ http://www.revvolution.com/blog/2014...dy-the-process Here's the rundown: Last week we introduced the wide-body components and our overall objective for the exterior. We wanted to go after an appearance that nobody has yet to complete, and yet is attainable for anybody who wants an aggressive, track-oriented look. At the same time, we want the finished product to have a fit and finish that appears to come straight from the factory. To achieve that level of perfection, we knew Paul Silva and SLVA Automotive Studio would be the company responsible for all the bodywork and exterior modifications. All of which brings us to this week’s installment where we discuss the processes that SLVA employs to mold in the body kit and create the unique and clean look we require. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() From here, we won't release any more full body shots until the wheels are on the car... because it looks ridiculous... as in 10-hand gap between the stockers and flares. Next week we'll be dropping our full look at the bottom end of the our FA20 and exactly what we did for the build. Definitely will be a great piece. Update 5/23: This is what I've personally been waiting for... the bulk of the engine build has finally been released. About a month ago we assessed the strengths and weaknesses of the FA20 / 4U-GSE. And now, finally, we just released our documentation of the build itself: how SCR Performance went about building upon those strengths and addressing the weaknesses that we found earlier. Check out the full article now live @ http://www.revvolution.com/blog/2014...the-bottom-end And more importantly, onto some of the pics ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() 8/22/2014: It seems like I missed an update here, but instead of flooding additional images, figure I just link out to the main article... We focused on upgrading the FA20's oil, cooling, fuel and ignition systems to make sure it can handle the power, reliably: http://www.revvolution.com/blog/2014...nition-systems 8/22/2014: This is hands-down one of our best articles to date. We finally had a chance to sit down and put together the *massive* documentary of our custom turbo kit built by the guys over at ar design. They're masters, no joke. We sat down and discuss how we specified every part of the turbo system, how we designed it, and how it was fabricated. And documented it with some sweet shots. Here's the link: http://www.revvolution.com/blog/2014...-gse-turbo-kit And here are some shots... ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Here's an official build list of all the items that we've released thus far: Exterior: Molded Rocket Bunny v1 Fender Flare Kit ARP CF Front Air Dam (Lip) Custom Front Splitter Molded Stillen Side Skirts Seibon TA-style Side Lips Molded Stillen Rear Bumper Flares Custom Rear Splitter Seibon CF Trunk Engine (Bottom End): Crawford I-Beam Connecting Rods Crawford Spec'd JE 10:1 E85 Pistons Honed Cylinders Fully Balanced Rotating Assembly New OE Bearings, Gaskets, Piston Rings, etc Dynasty Case Stud Kit Turbo Kit: Garrett Twin-Scroll GTX3076R Tial Q BOV Tial MV-S x 2 Garrett IC Suspension: Air Lift Performance BRZ Digital Combo Kit Last edited by RockySDS; 08-22-2014 at 01:58 PM. |

Ahh my bad man! Yeah we were down there... had a pretty big presence too with our setup and what not. Did you make the trip down too? Saw a couple FRS/BRZ's down there that turned some heads. One that really caught my attention was a pearlescent white FRS running a Precision 6266 (IIRC) on his fully-built 4U-GSE. Thing mooooooved. |

Wanted to show where we're at as of yesterday... this next month is going to be insane as ALL the parts have shown up and we're working diligently to get her done mid-May.
Pardon the crappy cell phone snap, legit photos coming soon ![]()
