Looking for a HUD under $300/ post yours please

Looking to get rid of my stock pioneer screenless HU (accidentally put HUD in title idk how to change it). wanting to upgrade to something that looks better and is touch screen. ideal would be one specific made for our cars that goes edge to edge but willing to look at any suggestions or options you guys have. Also would like to know how much work went into installing the one you did (was it plug and play) what problems you ran into, and if any features were lost.

HUD like heads up display or HU like head unit... aka radio? I assume you mean a radio/nav. I went with the pioneer NEX-8100. It's a fully loaded pioneer nav/radio and it's universal like the majority of units out there. The wiring and dash kit are what make it functional with our vehicles. Those will be the cheaper of the parts. Install can easily be done by yourself.

yea thanks for that clarification, wasn't paying attention to that when typing it in the title. thanks for the info thread, but my problem is most of these threads and reviews are old (1-4 years old) and i know they come out with new models all the time. So im trying to see if people have info or suggestions of newer, faster, better running models. But again i know im on the low end for budget so ive been looking at joying and a couple other off brands, but am stuck trying to figure out will fit and what wont. I know a couple people used joying but had to modify the bezel trim and mine is wrapped in alcantara so i cant mess with my trim.
does anyone know if this unit would fit? and if not am i able to trim the unit instead of the trim.

or this one is nice too would this work? it says toyota universal

This is the one that i've most recently installed. It's probably your best option on the market for an android head unit right now. Great support XDA developers and on this forum -- Works great, and performance is solid (not as smooth as a 2017 or 2016 model phone... but on par with what you'd see in a 2015 model phone).

yes this one is on top of my list. so far this is the only one i have found that is a perfect fit on all four sides that requires no modification to brackets, trim, or unit. Was that the same experience you had while installing? also what harness did you buy with the unit? did you buy anything else with it?
the only reason im still looking at other options like the two i linked above is that i want to try and find one that is all screen no buttons for that really clean look.

The unit fits pretty well, with the exception that it sits a tad bit too far forward on the brackets. This means that the trim doesn't close flushly around the unit. It was a reasonably easy fix... Just remove the bracket (takes 15 seconds to do) and drill the bracket holes 5mm back on the bracket. Then everything fits flush, and nice.

The harnesses are a pain -- Joying DOES make a single harness that solves all of your needs, but it costs $20 + shipping from china, and will take at least 2 weeks to get in. Otherwise, you have to buy individual harness adapters to make the antenna work for radio, retain stock USB, and retain stock AUX.

Personally, I never use the radio, and don't care to retain the stock USB or AUX. I also have a 2013 BRZ, which doesn't have steering wheel controls. So for me, I didn't need to purchase any additional harnesses. I did have to repin one of the harnesses slightly (the 'amp cont' wire is not attached to the 10-pin harness for some reason, it sits on its own. I had to add a pin to this wire and stick it into the blank spot in the harness where it would go...).

As someone with hobby skills in this area, I found all of this to be easy enough. For $300 I consider this unit worth it -- I remember when radios of this caliber cost $500+.

If you want to retain all of the factory features then i'd buy the necessary harness from Joying ASAP, so that it can get into the mail. It's a bummer when you can have the headunit to your door via Amazon PRIME in 2 days, but the harness takes 2+ weeks.

thanks for that info, i also just finished reading another thread about this unit that was lengthy and informative, however it raised concerns for me. people were saying they had problems with BT audio... which is what i would be using, do you have this problem?.... also i want the radio, and usb/aux to work, so ill have to purchase the additional harnesses. ill have read back through that other thread, multiple people were listing the harnesses needed. also everyone was talking about bad internal mic, awkward external mic.... It is possible to use oem mic? last i know nothing about steroes, and rom and all these people downloading new ROMs or updating to different systems.. is this something the HU needs to have done in order for it to be worth it?? o and i use spotify so does this HU support that app?

sorry for all the questions just trying to see if its worth it for me personally
