grand dad and the 86

My grand dad and I walked to a toyota dealership for some excersice to purchase some parts for his highlander. His mind is starting to wander, especially at 90 years. He looks at the 86 and says " gee that looks familiar, bit its kinda an ugly familiar..." then I tell him, well gamps, I actually own that car. The look on his face was priceless. I had to tell him the previous years were slightly differend and so forth...

You should have told him his Highlander looks only a bit better than a Pontiac Aztek and gave him a black eye!

That's great that he's still driving, and a new Miata no less. I'm 71 now and hope I can do the same. Thanx for sharing.

That was a story worth reading, and might I add if you need reading glasses to see this on your phone you hope to be able to do the same one day. I know a lively gentleman who is 15 years your gtandfather"s senior. He probably hopes to be like him.

No secret. Uncle Moe, as they call him, lives in the senior residence my Dad moved to last year.He walks, not sure if he uses a walker. I see him talking too and apparently he has his faculties. And he doesnt look all shrunken as some really old people do.

I met the fellow who first put flippers in pinball machines (1947) back in 2011 at a trade show in Chicago. At the time he was 99 and we spoke. He was very small and with a walker. When he did pass a year later it was mentioned on the Tonight Show. They commented that when he turned 90 he was awarded an extra ball. LOL

The people from Okinawa have been recognized for their longevity, which is at least partially attributed to their high vegetable content diet with mostly fish for protein.

My maternal Grandmother was 99 when she died. Her mother was 102, her one uncle was 104 (and still worked every day at his hardware store right up to the day he died) and the other 106. They were all raised on a farm but then went off and lived radically different lives so variables were introduced.

In summery: Genetics.

Nah. My maternal grandfather died of cancer at 57. My father at 70 and my paternal grandparents at 71 and 72. My paternal grandfather was a lumberjack in Quebec. He never smoked or drank a day in his life and only ate stuff that was grown or killed on a farm. Had cancer in just about every part of the body you can get it. As much as I would like to lean towards the vampire side of the family I think that genetically speaking I am doomed.
