Exhaust Set-Up Questions

Hello everyone,

I recently had a catless EL header, and CAI put into my BRZ along with a tune. The rumble isn't exactly where I want it to be yet so I'm thinking about adding an Invidia N1 or Invidia Q300, and a catless front pipe.

I'm wondering if this setup will throw a check engine light/need a re-tune, or if it's going to be monstrously loud and I just don't realize what I'm getting myself into.

The header I have is the HKS EL should that matter.

Does anyone have experience with these set-ups or have a link to a video where I can get an idea of what I'm getting into? (There are plenty of videos of isolated components of this setup but I'm yet to find anything that includes the full set).

Thanks in advance,
Anderzz

Because you specifically mentioned 'rumble', you may never get the sound you're looking for with an equal length header - an equal length header is my preference, but it doesn't provide the Subaru 'rumble' that an unequal length header does. This is something you need to keep in mind.

Changing to an uncatted front pipe will give more power and volume, but again without much more 'rumble'. You will definitely need a re-tune to avoid ECU codes. Out of curiosity, what tuning system are you using to re-flash your ECU?

The Invidia N1 is loud, and with your proposed changes it will be extremely loud. The Q300 is quiet and may keep noise at reasonable levels, but again without much more 'rumble' - are you looking for more power, more volume, or more 'rumble'?

My tune was done in Charlton, Massachusetts by Bren Tuning, TBH I'm not sure what route they went with my car, but they do primarily Cobb e-tunes AFAIK.

I'm always looking for more power, but from a simple enjoyment perspective I'm looking for more rumble and volume, primarily at lower RPMs (I spend a lot of time in stop & go traffic and even as it is with the new parts you can barely tell it's idling...)

Appreciate the response by the way

The N1 can be LAF (loud as fuck) when you get on it. Plus you will have a lot of drone at cruising speeds. I had to wear ear plugs on road trips with my EL full catless setup. However I liked the way it sounded at idle. If it weren't for the drone I could probably have tolerated it. But it was an attention getter. No stealth mode here. I went back to stock catback.

You need UEL headers for rumble. The boxer itself doesnt produce it

I will tell you that running a catless UEL, catless FP and an N1 will sound a bit raspy and it will be VERY loud. I am running this setup and I love it. Can't go wrong with the rumble!

PS: It will smell bad though.
