Why not 300+ hp?
I keep reading about 200-250hp which isn't bad for it's weight but it is still pretty slow compared to other rwd cars. At best (w/250hp) the weight to power will be about 10.8lbs/1hp. Right now the 5.0 is less then 9lbs per hp. I would assume a 250hp FT-86 is good for lows 14s and low 15s with a 200hp engine. I personally think they should use a new Subaru engine with about 300hp and that doesn't break with simple mods like the current STI engine.
Let's hear your thoughts... |

Simply put?
This isn't a Lexus. More detail - Toyota wants to make a performance/sporty car at a low price and get people into the Toyota brand (eventually move up to Lexus) and go back to their history. Lexus is a premium/luxury brand. Where their cheapest car can be like in the low 30's at the most. |

Cheap, Fast, Reliable.
Pick Two. BTW, this car was designed to be inexpensive and since it is a Toyota/Subaru, I would assume it will be reliable. That's why.

I can't believe people think a RWD turbocharged sport coupe will have to cost over 30k when a AWD, 2.5l turbo WRX exist at 26k OTD. And this car is built on the same platform.

What is your definition of fast and cheap? What is fast to someone is slow to another. What is cheap to one is expensive to another. I always hate these list three and pick two scenarios. Most of the time they don't even work since it is heavily definition based. What is "cheap" to you might not be for others. And what I consider fast might be slow to you. I think you can definitely get all 3 of those in a package.

If you want a 300hp FT at the start, DIY. Get an EJ turbo conversion or build up the FB. It's self explanatory. They aren't going to be launching the FT with an engine that probably won't be production ready at the time of release.

![]() This topic has been discussed in not only other threads, but in practically every single thread on this forum. It's always brought up, even in threads where it is off-topic, and the bottom line answer is what the above users said.

Its getting to the point where I can't tell if people are trolling or legitimately asking this same old tired and stupid question.
