DAMMIT! There is only one time that I'm not proud to be an American and that is when this car hits the showroom floor as a fuggin Scion!
In the US it’ll be sold under Toyota’s Scion sub-brand so there’s no single global identity, leaving the door open for the Celica name to make a reappearance in European and Japanese markets. A Toyota insider says 86 is likely to be retained in its name somewhere, however, as the car has been conceived as a tribute to Toyota’s classic AE86 Corolla.

Yeah, definitely NOT a confirmation of any kind. If anything, the article works to make it seem less likely about the 86 being in the name somehow. Thread title needs to be changed.
That said, if the rest of the world gets a Celica and we get the 'FR-S' I'd be so fucking pissed. If it does and I ever buy one, I'll pay whatever needed to rebadge it as a Celica.

Says nothing about it getting confirmed, just that it's possible for the car to be called a Celica.

People should read beyond the headline. Still cracks me up people whining about Scion though. It's like people in Australia whining they have to buy a Holden instead of GM. I'm still putting money this won't be named Celica for numerous reasons but the biggest being that it's paying homage to a Corolla. So why name it Celica?

why? because it will sell more cars.
i'd buy a toyota badge over a subaru badge over a scion badge for a car like this. and that's why they'd call it a celica in europe, most europeans feel the same way about celica over corolla as i feel about toyota over scion. but you're right, this confirms NOTHING. who cares what they call it... i am more interested in CONFIRMED leaks about price and weight. |

QUOTE] The problem is, we get retards here putting chevrolet bagdes on their holdens thinking its 'fully shick bro'. However im opposed to calling this a celica, but thats because in my mind a celica is a FF car (I wasnt around when they were 4WD and FR) |

I see you've also done polling all over Europe to find out what they prefer. You can't say most people feel the same way you do, because you have no idea. The people who frequent this forum are probably .00001% of the Global market. More likely not even that. So yeah people who come here are going to feel strongly about what it's called, etc. But we are far outweighed by people who aren't that interested in the name or what brand it is. [QUOTE=farugah;45273] Quote:
Even if they never went FF, there's nothing about this that says Celica. Other than they are both sports cars. But by that logic you can call it the Toyota Viper then.
