Making the BRZ sound better
Alright so I have a few questions in what you guys have done to improve sound. One of the first things I did when I bought my BRZ was change out the muffler to a flow master 80-series muffler, (BRZ is the only 4 cyl I wouldve ever used flow master, due to the Subaru rumble the car has) I absolutely love the way it sounds, and since then Ive put tons of other mods on the car and even tho I do like the sound of the muffler, I wish it was a little louder. So I Started looking into intakes which brings to my first question; Does a cold air intake really make the car that much louder/better? I understand it doesn't add a noticeable amount of power, but 300$+ for a cai is a lot of money if it's not gonna make my car sound any better. My next question is since I do want to keep the flow master muffler could I buy a cat back system and use my current muffler? Or does anyone have any other suggestions to making the car just sound a little bit better without replacing everything? BTW I am not tuned, so the cai I'm looking at are the grimmspeed and the injen cai. Thanks

I have to say the induction noise sounds beast and I like it more than my exhaust setup (UEL+Catback). Didn't realize the engine could sound this good. Also there is absolutely no difference in power that I can feel, maybe even slower because my maf was scaled to the oem intake lol. I can't say much about Grimspeed or Injen but personally I would go with Grimspeed, mainly cuz of the positive reviews on this forum I read about. It comes down to if you're willing to pay the price for some induction noise that is pretty noticeable, for a pretty negligible difference in power. |

Do you have headers done yet or are you on stock headers?

I have stock headers. Would it be a better idea to purchase headers and a tune and leave the rest of the exhaust stock for now? Other then my muffler and tips of course. Do you have any idea how much it would cost for the tune? I don't really want to go e85, to hard to find pumps around my location.

In terms of bang for your buck in sound and performance its no contest going headers and tune over an intake even if you don't go e85

UEL header and catless front pipe to really open up that Boxer rumble.
And be ridiculously loud.

UEL header and a tune is the way to go. Even just a $500 OFT is fine for the tune. More power and you'll get the subi rumble.

Op didn't say he was looking to make more power, just that he wanted it to sound nice.
In my opinion induction noise sounds great, particularly on 4 and 8 cylinder motors. I have the Grimmspeed cai and I like the extra noise it makes. The other thing I like about induction noise is that it is only there when you use a lot of throttle.

i have a lachute exhaust which is pretty mild in terms of sound (great in tone though). like you i wanted a little "more." have tried a few different intakes. the stock was very anemic, quiet without the sound tube. had an airaid one on there as well which sounded definitely louder and throatier, but also had that 2000s fast and furious type of note to it. now i have the grimmspeed intake which is louder than stock but not crazy and has a pretty sweet tone to it. obviously take it with a grain of salt because he isn't a car guy, but my neighbor said he thought i bought a ducati after i installed it and he heard it revving from my garage.

You should change your title to "Making the BRZ sound louder".
To many people, loud is not "better" |
