Brz turbo?
If the new forester xt comes with our engine with turbo, does this mean we will get this turbo in a upcoming model? It makes 250hp and 258tq at 2000rpm which is great. If i already have a brz,can i just slap this turbo on to my car with the same tune as the xt, and if i can what happens with warranty?
Heres a small review I found on the. Internet. "In general, we liked everything about the turbo/CVT setup except the way it launched from a standing start. Surprisingly sluggish is how we'd describe its launch—and seriously not any faster by the seat of the pants than the 2.5i model—yet by 10 mph the turbo boost builds and it feels legitimately quick, and you get all 258 pound-feet of torque at 2,000 rpm. We think the rather tall starting ratio of the CVT has something to do with it—although this crossover does still weigh 3,600 pounds." |

That motor will have differnet internals and i dont think it has direct injection (off the top of my head ). While it may be possible that a Brz will one day come with a turbo, I dont think you will see one in the next MY.With an educated guess it will not be as simple as getting XT turbo parts and slapping it on to the FA20. Might be as simple as getting some sort of conversion kit though. But one thing I do know is the stock XT tune will not work and adding a turbo will void your warranty (unless it is some sort of Delar installed option). If you want to turbocharge your car, get a turbo kit.

The FXT will be running a full Subaru direct injection unlike our Toyota D4-S. Also, the motor in the FXT will sit in a much different location (and a much different engine compartment) than the motor in your FR-S and the turbo/exhaust manifold won't fit.

As you seem to be 'in the know', could you please clarify for us what parts of the turbo/manifold will foul the BRZ?

For the money, I'd just go with the AVO turbo kit because even if the OEM stuff fit it would still cost almost as much (or more) as the aftermarket kit.

Unless you've tried bolting the turbo FA20 into a BRZ you won't actually know.

I really don't think that it's going to be as hard as everyone says.
Here is the '12 Legacy GT turbo set-up: ![]() It doesn't look that much different from our exhaust mani. ![]() Here is the '14 Foz engine and turbo set-up: ![]() If they are to turbo the BRZ, seems like an easy enough install to me. The only "real" hard part I see is the piping to the rear of the car. Last edited by Beyer Subaru; 03-14-2013 at 11:42 AM. |

Where do I say that it fits? I said "even if (key words have been bolded) the OEM stuff fit it would still cost almost as much (or more) as the aftermarket kit". The aftermarket makes turbo kits for the BRZ/FR-S fitment but that is different than the stock FXT parts the OP was talking about using, OEM and aftermarket options are not the same. I've seen a new 2014 FXT and the turbo hangs too low in the chassis to fit the brz.
