Perrin Intake & air inlet hose questions
Hello everyone,
I've recently picked up a CSF racing radiator and Perrin Oil Cooler kit to better cool my car for track days. The radiator installation went all right but noticed that the Perrin Oil Cooler Kit had some serious clearance issue with the stock air intake box. Talked to Perrin and my go-to shop about it, and they both suggested to heat up the intake box with a heat gun and push in the corners to make room for the hoses. However, I am thinking about just picking up the Perrin Air Intake and the air inlet hose. I was going to tune the engine eventually (currently focusing on reliability, cooling and chassis mods), but I am not planning it for another two years or so. I am not looking to gain any power at the moment, just wanting the clearance so that I can finish installing the oil cooler kit. If I pick up the Perrin intake, how crucial is it to get it tuned? It seems like it's mostly safe, just be mindful of the MAF sensor wiring positioning but this is something that I am not so sure of. Additionally, if the intake alone is safe, would adding the air inlet hose affect the MAF so much that I will be needing a tune to prevent the car running rich or lean? (wanting this for the looks and getting rid of the sound generator tube, but the larger diameter definitely concerns me) Does anyone have experience in having both? |

An intake like grimspeed is known to be pretty good at keeping maF scaling in check. I believe Perrin ideally requires some MAF scaling to dial in via tuning. TRD airbox works too.
I went through same process finding a cooler for my 17. The 17-20 manual airbox is a different design. Jackson racings mounting solution off the sandwich plate provides clearance for my stock airbox for anyone who is reading and is looking for something that fits. Yeah... I am also looking for different sandwich plate but they aren't exactly sold as a single unit. I also don't know how well they would work under different brands, but from what I see, even the name branded oil cooler kits are composed of different brand parts. I've been eyeing Mishimoto parts (specifically their banjo fittings) despite being warned of their late quality issues... |

I also have the 2017+ Jackson Racing oil cooler and I believe the difference is the angle of the hose connectors, not the sandwich plate. If you're willing to get custom hoses (DIY or from a shop) it might solve your problems without touching the intake box.

Gotcha, and thank you for the input.
The Perrin's hoses do come with 45 degree elbow connectors for the sandwich plate side. If the hoses had 90 degree elbow and maybe 3-4 inches longer, I believe that It can clear the stock intake box too. |
