I did that for a few years, until I realized the whiplash danger I was exposing myself to. I have a long neck.

At least in GEN1 it was my understanding it specifically designed for that purpose (being turned around when you were wearing a helmet). There was a good discussion on that with some of the Toyota staff at the First86 Long Beach event in 2012.

Wouldn't that be fixed by getting a HANS device?

I guess this is where I’m kinda of an odd ball in that I like to have at least some support for my head even with a helmet on. The Camry headrest is super plush and I really like the feeling of having my helmet against it.

This is a great point but the HANS device I would need to buy would be the one that goes behind your back (Simpson S or whatever it’s called) as I use the OEM seatbelt. I could get a harness bar to rock a harness but I’m a worry wart who would prefer to have a welded half cage instead in the off chance the car rolls and my neck is fixed in place and at the mercy of a collapsing roof. I do wear one of those go karting neck braces though.

After finding the OEM headrest in my 2019 BRZ Limited was forcing me to recline too far when helmeted and screwing up my driving position for autox, and then realizing it was screwing up my unhelmeted position too, I finally got a set of the Camry headrests. I'm so glad I did.

I got them off eBay for $42 all in, the listing says "2017 Toyota Camry Front Seat Headrest Pair Black Leather w/ Red Stitching OEM", I'm 99% sure that these are off the XSE trim level. This is the 7th gen XV50 Camry after facelift, which I think is MY2015-17.

The headrests are about 3.5cm further back than the original. (But if you can put your seat more upright, you'll be closer to the headrest anyway.) The original headrests are around 700g, these are more like 1500g. The back side of the headrest is more upright than the OEM headrest, I haven't tried flipping it with a helmet yet.

This allows me to completely change my position. I can sit 2-3 notches straighter on the road, and I no longer need the steering wheel at max extension. I'm pretty sure my neck will be a lot happier on long drives.
