I'm having to drain the above deck pool today. On Friday the granddaughters took the cover off for a swim and noticed a semi-floating substance that was slimy and whitish, that had permeated the water.

I tried to convince them it would "strain out", but they didn't go for it -

Then I tried to convince them that if I "shocked" it with a heavy dose of chlorine, that would "kill" any type of bad stuff. After they researched the situation on the internet (damn internet), they rejected the chlorine plan -

OK, OK, OK I agreed to drain, clean and refill the pool. I don't care if this is the PNW, they just don't give away 1,000 gallons of water -

I told the girls that when I was a kid, back on the farm, I had to swim in the same drinking water trough that the cows drank out of.. Either that, or swim in the creek where the racoons, muskrats and hogs peed and pooped.

After that story, they backed off and squealed "eueeeewww, Pa-pa, don't EVER touch us again!"

You did tell them that you've taken a couple of showers (with soap) since then?

My peppers are always small. Tomato plants have recovered from the squirrelpocolypse though. Getting a basket like that every day or two.

I told them, but, after they looked under my fingernails, they thought they saw racoon poop -

Ah the good old swimin' hole. I was lucky, there was good sized creek that ran just down the road from my childhood home. There was a single lane bridge where the old highway used to pass over it. That was our main spot. If that got too crowded then we'd move further down stream to an area where we'd play hockey in the winter. The first photo I think is me in the early 60's. The second is mid to late 60's with the next generation.
