So it rained in Toronto yesterday and I found myself at an empty parking lot.

One thing led to another and I was drifting away in pedal dance mode. Just wondering. How bad is drifting in low traction conditions for the suspension system? Should I avoid it completely?

As long as you don't hit anything (curbs, walls, poles, potholes) your car will be just fine.

Jesus christ I don't know how many times this has been posted, it's not bad but it sure as hell will wear tires down.

Also if you can't afford to fix it if you make a mistake you shouldn't be doing it all....

The real questions here are:

Just how big was this parking lot?
How did you find an empty one in Toronto in the middle of the week?
And
You know doing doughnuts is not really "drifting" right?

Yes, it is horrible and you should avoid it.

The car was designed to drift at lower speeds. Dont hit anything and all youll be wearing out is tires.

Haha. It was an empty Canadian Tire at midnight. Enough room to put a racing circuit in there.

Yea I have done some figure eights in parking lot when the ground is wet to try and prcatice.

First thing I leave after about 15 minutes as drifting on private property you don't own will get you in trouble with the law.

Second I cant find lots that dont have light poles in dangerous proximity.

Third, even in wet my tires get hot and will wear out faster. If you sustain the heat youll chunk your all season tires.

Round here it's 5min tops!

I miss rural towns where you could do it for an hour and no one would care. I once did like 4 donuts on I5. I was a jackass then in college. Never again.

As for OP, if you add just a tiny bit of oil to front, it makes sliding more fun. Not that I reccomend it but just a fyi.

I'm with the 15 minute rule, I spent over an hour in back high school in a snow covered parking with friends who are also serious car people lot drifting our parents and our own beater cars for fun a few years ago between cones, figure eights between cones and such right after heavy snow storms. We were stupid, irresponsible and young, and it was only in senior year that we got caught by school security who blocked both entrances and took away our high school parking permits for a week after to speaking to the principal

Now there is at least one police officer camped out at those parking lots every weekend looking for teens doing that stuff. Now that I'm older I understand it's stupid, and not fair to whoever owns that school parking lot, but it sure as hell was fun and also it was totally fun to learn how to hold a slide or stop a slide in the snow. I covet the fact that no police were involved or that none of us were stupid enough to hit anything.

haha what made me stop was hitting a cop car at 1mph or less on a uphill. I over revved my truck. Officer was nice and let me go. No harm done.
