Either way it's a powdercoated metal ball - it's going to be more extreme in temp changes than leather either way! People put little shift socks on them to help.

Exactly my thoughts.
I was gonna make a shift sock, but it's easier to just slip a glove over it until it warms up.
Those RaceSeng weighted knobs with the rubber sleeves are starting to look a little more appealing now...
