DRL are there for function, so that one is better visible/noticeable, which often serves well and is needed even in daylight, not just in dark. Some countries even mandate always on as required (though in earlier pre-DRL days they simply required for main lights to always be on). I'm not so sure it's worth disabling permanently just because you have taste that it visually seems worse to you. It's safety feature.
