If they do clean the DIs then they don't really do them too well. Roughly 50-60k miles on these. At best, they might be cleaning a little, but not the opening, which is what matters.
18k miles on this motor: just to show carbon deposits in the combustion chamber despite PIs and DIs, and to show that the DI injectors are pretty buried.

As I read, D4S is designed to clean direct injectors on idle cycles. Maybe, that engine is not idling enough.
