There is no reg saying you need to be there 2 hours before your flight.
That is a recommendation only.
2 for domestic, 3 for international.
45 to an hour at minimum if you need to check a bag.
I regularly get dropped at check in about a hour before the flight is scheduled to leave. (w/ just a carry on)
